About Sasha ~ 1yr Old Staffy X Kelpie(On trial 12/4/22)
PLEASE NOTE: Dog Rescue Newcastle provide individual listings specific to each foster dog that comes through our doors. Each listing outlines the specific requirements, and home that we are looking for. Should you submit an application OR inquiry and NOT receive a response within 5 business days (Monday-Friday), please understand that you have not met the specific requirements of the foster carer and will not be proceeding to the next stage. Please do not be disheartened or discouraged if you do not receive a reply, this simply means you were not a suitable match at this time. Dog Rescue Newcastle reserve the right to not reply to unsuitable applicants and will not tolerate bullying, intimidation or harassment of our volunteers
Sasha is a 1 year old, super sweet and sassy Staffy x Kelpie. When she looks up at you with her doughy, puss-in-boots eyes it will melt your heart. She is an absolute sweetheart who will follow your every move around the house and then flop affectionately at your feet when you stop, just to be as close to you as possible.
She looourves every human she meets. Sasha’s Staffy physique means she is nuggety, yet lean. A very healthy looking girl, with a very shiny coat and bright, white teeth. At just over 40cm from floor to top of her shoulders, she’s a great size – not too big, not too small. And she certainly thinks she’s small enough to settle herself on your lap!
Her happy place is hanging with her humans getting as much affection as you can dish up. At every opportunity she will rest her head on your lap or your foot as she goes into the traditional ‘spatchcock’ doggy yoga pose within seconds (see video!).

She has a few things to work on, but she’s young, cluey and very eager to please. Her rapid adjustment to indoor life, the doggy door and toilet training during her first days in foster care demonstrate her adeptness to learn new things. She does pretty well on her “sit”, “stay” and “wait” (especially at meal time); and she’s very responsive to her name.
While she loves to play with other dogs, her anxiety and inexperience with other pooches is initially exhibited in a defensive, first-meeting response. It generally takes a few minutes for her defenses to drop and her fun, playfulness to shine. Any other dogs in the household need to be confident, calm and non- reactive to her juvenile nonsense. She won’t be a good match for another reactive, anxious or sensitive dog; and definitely not suited to living with cats and other pets. She’d cope being the only dog so long as she has constant company.
Given her strength, excitability and current level of training, she’s not
suitable for a family with young children. Approaching and passing vehicles trigger a need for her to chase and protect. Her foster carer has been working on this with very positive, daily improvement. This will need to continue so she can be just as adorable out on a busy street as she is snuggled on the couch.
While she has a reputation for scaling high fences and escaping, she has not made any attempts and has shown no interest to leap the standard height (1.5m) fences during her foster care. She will definitely need a home that can provide attention and affection under the guidance of a patient and experienced hooman – possibly with another calm and tolerant doggy as a leader and role model.
With a commitment to her ongoing training and work on her anxieties she will absolutely thrive and make the bestest, most loyal pooch ever.
