NAME: Scrappie

BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.

BREED: Kelpie X

Breed Traits: Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and social with other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.

ASSETS: A little timid initially, especially with men, but once she’s comfortable she’s easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, sensitive, active, sweet and playful! She has a ton of love to give to her new family.

FAVOURITE THINGS: Scrappie loves to be around her people getting as much affection as she can. She also loves to play with the other dog in her foster home.

ENDEARING FEATURES: She’s incredibly sweet and loving and adores cuddles and being close to you. She's also a very neat medium sized 18kgs.

OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly, active dogs once she’s comfortable with them so would love to live with one after gentle introduction. Due to her background Scrappie doesn't like to share her dinner so would need to be fed separately from other dogs until well settled. Scrappie did live with a cat in her first home but has not interacted with a cat while in care so she may be able to live with a dog savvy cat that will stand its ground after gentle, supervised introductions.

GENERAL INFO: Scrappie needs to continue her lead training as it’s still quite new to her and although she does pull she is improving. Her command training is coming along nicely and she's a clever girl so will pick things up quickly and her recall is good. Scrappie has been living on a farm and spends a lot of her time outside with the resident dog but during her time in the house she has been clean although may need some gentle reminders to ask to go outside. Scrappie will bark for attention, at new noises, strangers and people at the door so is a good watch dog. If bored, she can be a bit of a chewer when left alone so keep any valuable shoes out of her reach! Being part Kelpie, Scrappie is high energy and needs good exercise and plenty of stimulation to avoid any negative behaviours.

ESSENTIALS for Scrappie:

** An active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis or she has a young doggy friend to keep her company and play with.
** An owner who will continue to train her and build on the great progress she has made in care - classes where she can socialize and learn new things would be of great benefit to her.
** Being an active girl, she needs good daily exercise so an active home that is willing to involve her in family activities.
** Scrappie needs a large. fenced, secure yard with grass or she could live on a rural property where she has supervision.
** Scrappie loves to be with her person so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
** Another active dog to play with.

She could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 12yrs only - she is very fast when running and could easily bowl over a small child by accident.
