~SPECIAL NEEDS, DEAF ~ Frankie is a loving and intelligent boy who will come to you for cuddles. He is a 3 year old white French Bulldog with gorgeous black markings on his typical “bat ears”. Frankie is also an exceptionally special young man, as he is deaf.
He loves snacks and is very gentle taking them out of your hand. He is patient at dinner time and will wait while you get his food before trying to eat. He is on Meals for Mutts Salmon and Sardine due to his skin allergies.
As Frankie is deaf he requires some special treatment so as not to be startled. He is becoming very good with his signs to sit, etc, but sometimes it can be on his terms so this training will need to be ongoing. Frankie would be best suited as a single dog for the time being. He can find multi-dog situations a little overwhelming at this stage. He would benefit from further guidance and training in this area to assist him to be the worlds best doggo. He is unreactive on walks, but needs more assistance with one on one situations.
Frankie gets very excited when he meets new people for the first time and this needs to be worked on, but once he settles down loves to have attention from them. He is a pretty chilled dude once he knows you and will take as much attention as he can get. He likes to be near his humans.
As Frankie can be quite excitable and will sometimes jump up for attention, he would best suit a family with children 5-12 yrs in the home. Although he is small, he will require secure fencing to ensure he is kept safe.
He is toilet trained and knows how to sit, lay down or drop and his foster carer is working on stay as he does not like to let you out of his sight. It is important for him to be inside and part of the family. Frankie was mostly an outside dog before he came to stay with his foster carer. He was accepted into the house and is free to come and go as he pleases, unless he is going outside to toilet he prefers his human to be with him. He does however need some encouragement to stay outside while his foster carer is out but then sleeps most of the time (his foster carer has a Frankie Cam).
He sleeps inside, mostly on his bed in the loungeroom, he is no trouble at all and he hardly barks unless he needs something. He would love to sleep on the bed with you if he was allowed. Frankie would suit a family, couple or single who preferably have some experience with French Bulldogs, their traits and any possible health issues. One of this breed’s care requirements are that he cannot be left outside in the heat or cold. He would suit someone who is home most of the time.
It is also exceptionally important that Frankie's new family have some experience with deaf dogs. Communication is a key component of Frankie's everyday life, and having the ability, skill and knowledge on deaf dogs is a huge benefit. He will not suit first time dog owners, or those with no breed or deaf dog experience. Please do not apply if you do not meet the above criteria.
He walks very well on a loose lead once he settles from the excitement of going out and loves to explore his surroundings as he goes. He requires short but regular walks as he tires quickly and being a Frenchie is best walked early morning or later evening in the summer due to the heat.
His foster carer says Frankie is one of the most loveable dogs she has met and will make someone or a family very happy once he finds his forever home. Frankie is big on connection and bonds. He can be stubborn (as Frenchies are) but is very endearing and has quite a personality.
For more information or to meet Frankie, please contact his foster carer via email aminyas@hotmail.com, Frankie is in foster care at Maryland NSW.
Frankie’s adoption fee includes all up to date vet work. He is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms and he is microchipped. He has also had his Soft Palate resected to aid in his breathing.
Medical notes
As Frankie is deaf he requires some special treatment so as not to be startled. He is becoming very good with his signs to sit, etc, but sometimes it can be on his terms so this training will need to be ongoing.
French Bulldogs have a variety of health related conditions. Its important his new family are aware of the breed, and a home with breed experience will be highly desirable.
