About Ava
*In foster care in Marrickville, Sydney*
Ava is an adorable, affectionate and energetic little dog who just wants to be in your orbit! Hanging out with her people is her favourite thing in the world - especially if there's belly rubs involved...
This sweet lady is extremely active and always up for a chase around the yard, or a leisurely trot around the neighbourhood. She's excellent at getting the ball, if not so great at returning it to you - but that's all part of her game!
Morning and evening walks are the highlight of her day - if she encounters another nice dog while out and about, that's the cherry on top! - and due to her petite size and easygoing nature she's very easy to manage on lead.
Ava has Cushing's Disease, which is easily managed by medication put into her food. The effects of the condition are that she pants more than other dogs, drinks a lot of water and subsequently goes to the toilet frequently. However, the condition is barely noticeable. She will require access to a water bowl inside and outside. Her need to pee has not been an issue in foster care, as she has demonstrated she's able to hold on until she's let out in the morning.
Like all Maggie's pets, Ava is microchipped, desexed and vaccinated.

MY IDEAL HOME: ... will be with someone who'll give me SO many pats! I love attention and affection more than anything else, and enjoy going on two walks per day to stay fit and healthy. You'll always know when I'm feeling super happy, because my tail whips around in full circles like a helicopter!
I definitely like to be inside the house with my foster carers - I'm always inside when they are. I also sleep inside, on my own bed. My foster carers work from home, so I've definitely grown used to having constant companionship and I'm not sure how I'd go if you left me alone all day!
MY ENERGY LEVEL: Medium to high, I'd say! I'm a fun loving and energetic girl, and you'll definitely need to commit to maintaining my twice-daily walk routine. I don't really play independently, but you can always catch my interest with a game of ball chase in the backyard.
In the evenings, my preferred activity is chilling out with my foster carers on my bed - or on the couch if I'm allowed!
MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Because of my sweet nature, there's every chance that I'll love living in a family home - and that a family will love my company just as much!
MY SUITABILITY TO CATS AND DOGS: I'm always really friendly when meeting other dogs on walks! My usual MO is to have a respectful sniff and wag my tail.
I haven't spent time with any cats since coming into foster care.

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
Please consider, that a Maggie's Pet is a pet for Life, before adopting.
