Great Ryrie is a beautiful, loving, friendly and happy dog. In fact, he is so happy that his long tail often wags like a propeller and sometimes hits him in the face! He has so much love to give and adores being loved in return.
Great Ryrie travels well in the car, is toilet trained, sleeps all night on his bed, and knows the basic commands of ‘sit’ and ‘wait’ for food and before coming inside. Great Ryrie knows some great tricks too like ‘shake’, ‘lie down’, ‘roll over, ‘play dead,’ and ‘up’. He also does ‘up’ sometimes even when he is not asked. But he is very gentle when he does so and is quickly learning to get down when he is corrected. He will also get on his bed when instructed and will listen when he is directed to leave a particular area of the house. He picks up routines very quickly and would slot right into any new house being easy to train.
Great Ryrie gets along well with our resident medium female dog. They love to chase each other, play tug of war and rough play/wrestle. Whilst he loves her company, he is also happy to chill outside by himself, or relax inside having a snooze on his bed. Sometimes when he thinks no one is looking he will sneak up on the couch! But quickly gets off when instructed to do so. Great Ryrie loves to play tug of war and fetch with his humans too. He also loves to lean on them and be smothered with pats and to be told how much of a good boy he is.
Great Ryrie would preferably be best suited to a house with another dog to play with. The dog must be medium or large as Great Ryrie is quite boisterous when he plays and sometimes does not know his own limits and strength. The dog must be able to keep up with him and be confident enough to teach him his boundaries.
Great Ryrie also likes to let us know when anyone is walking past our house or coming to our door with a few big barks. He also likes to jump up at the fence when people go by, so high secure fencing is a must.
Great Ryrie warms to all new adults quickly, but has not been tested with children.
Great Ryrie is a big dog and needs a strong and confident handler when walking. He walks well enough on a lead with some zigging and zagging. He also gets excited when he sees other dogs and will need someone strong to keep him on track. He has not had a lot of exposure to the world so different sounds on walks startle him. He will need ongoing training with this and his general exposure to the world.
All in all Great Ryrie is an amazing dog with so much to offer. With a commitment to ongoing training, Great Ryrie will be the best new family member and greatest companion.
