About Sookie
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Sookie
BREED: Rhodesian Ridgeback X Bull Mastiff
Ridgeback traits: smart but stubborn, mischievous and strong willed, sensitive but do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle and defenders of the home. Their high prey drive precludes other animals unless raised together. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Bull Mastiff traits: originally a guard dog, affectionate and loving with family. Sensitive to his clan he is a courageous guardian Independent thinkers so training and socialisation should start young. Best as an inside dog to protect from overheating. Low to medium energy but can excel in various dog sports. He is a drooler and definitely not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Affectionate, active, sweet and playful! Sookie has come on in leaps and bounds since being in care and still has an amazing amount of potential if you're prepared to put the time in with her, which she would love as she loves nothing more than being close to her human.
FAVOURITE THINGS: She loves cuddles and adores being with you no matter what you are doing. She enjoys playtime and loves to play fetch and tug of war.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She has a lovely sweet personality. She's quick on the uptake when learning new things and loves her food so training is a breeze. She also snores loudly but would love to sleep on your bed if allowed!!
OTHER ANIMALS: Sookie has lived with several dogs during her life but can be choosy - the key is slow and gentle introductions over time. She is young and very playful and has recently played nicely with a female Ridgeback . She has been attending the local Dog Club and is now relaxed around other friendly dogs on leash. She chases birds and cats so we won't place her in a home with small animals.
GENERAL INFO: Sookie is still learning how to walk nicely on lead as she has a tendency to pull but does respond quickly with corrective work so will need to continue with this training. She is housetrained and her commands are coming along nicely, although her recall needs to be improved. Sookie suffers from some separation anxiety and therefore doesn't like to be left alone for long periods and will chew and dig - she needs someone around more often than not. She doesn't like loud noises and is fearful of fireworks. Sookie is short nosed so requires gentle exercise to prevent overheating and not too much exposure to heat - she needs to be rested on hot days and given gentle to medium exercise on other days.
ESSENTIALS for Sookie:
* Sookie needs a dog experienced home with someone there for most of the day and can take her with them when they go out.
* An owner who can continue to train and socialize her, preferably in a controlled class environment.
* A good walk at least once a day with trips out when possible.
* A well fenced, secure grassy yard.
* Access to the home so that she can be with you - she wants to be your best buddy, and to also sleep inside at night.
* She would prefer to be the only pet in the home if you are prepared to be her best friend but we hope she will also develop friendships with a doggy or two in time.
Sookie likes respectful children so could live with children over 10yrs.
If Sookie sounds like the perfect girl for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
