Mia

4.5-year-old Mia is a special addition to the Amazing Greys family. Although we can vouch for her being just about the cutest, sweetest, most lovable little lass, we’re not sure exactly what she is. The best guess we were given when she arrived in care is German Shorthair Pointer x greyhound. So expect a sprinkle of couch potato vibes with some extra energy to play!

Mia came into care with Amazing Greys late last year, after she escaped her previous home in absolute terror during a wild storm. She was picked up by a regional pound, with injured paw pads from running so far. Her old home didn’t want her anymore and we were asked to take her in. Escaping the storm turned out to be Mia’s lucky escape because from that day on, she’s only known people who appreciate her for who she is and comfort her when scared.

Mia’s biggest ‘personality’ is a friendly girl who loves the company of her humans and enjoys spending time with her canine foster sister (another greyhound x breed) too. She’s a clever girl and has been picking up basic cues well including ‘sit’, ‘stay’ (work in progress), and to give back or drop toys when asked. Her favourite things in the world are stinky sardines for brekky and a balanced plush diet of a croissant and beer can soft toy.

Mia walks well on loose-leash and enjoys going for walks. She sometimes freezes in new areas or with loud traffic noises, but her confidence is growing all the time.

Mia can initially find new environments a little stressful, but with some gentle patience she adjusts well. She quickly looks to her trusted humans for comfort. Loud noises, including storms and fireworks, are very frightening for Mia, and she MUST be inside during these situations, with company to reassure her that things are all okay.

Mia does have separation anxiety when home alone and prefers having the company of another dog when her humans are out. If Mia was to be an only dog in her forever home, she needs a home with humans who are around most of the time, and who can very slowly introduce her to ‘alone time’.

Mia’s perfect home includes humans to dote on her, another dog for company, and a backyard (with secure fencing) to burn off some of her happy energy. She enjoys a road trip and has even been camping a couple of times, and she loves playtime and learning games to stimulate her curious mind.
