About Tuffy ~ 13yr Old Maltese X
This is Tuffy!
A very fit, healthy and adorable 13 year old Maltese-X who does not shed.
Tuffy may be a little hard of hearing, he may not see terribly well, but there is nothing wrong with his sense of smell, appetite or energy levels!
In foster care, Tuffy got the tick of approval from his vet - strong heart and lungs, healthy skin and fur. He did have some dental work, and his pearly whites are now stunning!
Tuffy loves to be nearby and is ready to move when you are. He insists on sleeping in bed with his hoomans and makes sure he has enough room for himself. He’ll kindly nudge you with his little legs to make sure his space is just right... for him. He is looking for a home where he is allowed to be inside as much as he likes, even when home alone.
Because he is a bit hard of hearing, loud sudden noises tend to frighten him. Sometimes he even thinks he hears something and scares himself! He does not always hear if you leave the room and so will place himself strategically near the exit so his chances of noticing you leaving are optimal. Only so he can come with you. No matter where you’re off to. He is not suited to a family with young children.
He walks well on a lead, is friendly with other dogs he meets and does not become aggressive. He is quite happy go lucky when out and about. He is not a fan of cats - a canine companion at home could work, but a feline one is unfortunately not an option.
Nor is he a fan of being left home alone. He has not displayed any destructive behaviour but will bark in bouts when alone. If he is tired he will sleep intermittently, barking in between. He would much prefer to go with you wherever you are going. When you do return home, he doesn’t always hear you coming in, so try to make sure he notices you without frightening him.
Tuffy is a good companion at coffee shops, picnics, loves a car trip and visiting your family and friends. He will ideally be your constant companion and he does love his walks. He is used to a daily hour-long walk of about 3 kilometres, as long as he has time to have a good sniff and check stuff out. Your yard needs to be secure - he is very inquisitive and will quickly locate any weaknesses in your fencing. Like many dogs Tuffy is no fan of thunderstorms, but settles quickly once the storm passes.
Tuffy has so much to give and asks for so little in return. Why not make him your companion?
