Are you Bojack’s Perfect Match??
He is a young pup in a big dog body with gorgeous brown eyes who we call our gentle giant. We have spent some time training him and teaching boundaries and he has proved to be an intelligent, willing and fast learner - toilet training, sit, drop, bed and roll over all nailed in the first week! A little more training to go with toilet training as he’s only been at it for a month so this will need to be continued, but we have had no accidents since his first couple of days here.
Bojack walks beautifully on a lead with a Halti, over time you may be able to transition to a normal collar and lead once he learns that you walk the dog, not the other way around. He has displayed no aggression nor barks when he meets other dogs on walks but will turn himself inside out to try and get to them and play. The Halti helps control him until he learns that pulling is not acceptable and not all dogs may be quite as friendly as him.
For a young pup that has only had a few weeks of learning he has excelled. We would expect the training to continue - reinforcing no jumping. This is rare now, however it does happen every now and then when he gets over excited. He is quick to correct when doing naughty puppy things. He responds well to both treats and a big GOOOOD BOOYYY praise!
Bojack LOVES toys. Chew toys, ropes, squeaky toys, cuddly toys, sticks, sticks and more sticks. He spends hours chewing and throwing his toys around. He is not destructive and has at no point damaged anything you wouldn’t want a dog to chew but a healthy budget for replacing toys is a must because he is like the hulk with them and they don’t stand a chance.
Bojack LOVES other dogs, but needs a lot more work to teach him that they are not all his friends and to improve his manners around them. He has been nothing but respectful around my cats, no dramas there at all, however when he wants to play with them he can be a little excitable but is quick to quieten down when corrected. The cats have had no problem giving him the odd reminder too! With proper introductions he will fit into a cat home well and appreciate a buddy. He can also get quite excitable when new people are around or come through the door but he has improved dramatically since being here and will only get better with ongoing training. He is not a very vocal fella (barking) and stops immediately once corrected.
We feel that Bojack will be best suited to a home with a children/family environment where he is included in all fafamily activities. He has been around several children, including my toddler nephews and he adores them, follows them around and is so gentle and sweet.
The younger the children the more supervision would be required for the odd reminder to Bojack to be gentle as he still has his puppy moments but we think he will thrive in a family environment where he has a bunch of buddies to spread his love around!
