PLEASE NOTE: Dog Rescue Newcastle provide individual listings specific to each foster dog that comes through our doors. Each listing outlines the specific requirements, and home that we are looking for. Please do not be disheartened or discouraged if you do not receive a reply, this simply means you were not a suitable match at this time. Dog Rescue Newcastle reserve the right to not reply to unsuitable applicants and will not tolerate bullying, intimidation or harassment of our volunteers
Meet Ned, an almost 2-year-old Ridgeback-Kelpie x Staffy. Ned is a medium sized dog who is very affectionate and loves belly rubs, as well as being around his carers. Ned loves to chase his tennis ball and explore the backyard; however, his favourite time is spent enjoying cuddles, lounging around and staying close by while his carers work at their desk or out in the garden.
Ned is a quick learner and since coming into care, he has learnt commands such as sit, stay, and lay down. He picks up new tricks easily with the help of a tasty treat. Ned is toilet trained and is an expert at using a doggy door.
Whilst Ned is very affectionate and loves cuddles with his owners, he is wary of strangers that visit the house. This may lead to him sometimes letting out a rare bark or growl as a coping technique and retreating to a safe space or his bed. However, his foster carers have already seen vast improvement in this behaviour over a short period of time through training and positive reinforcement.
Ned enjoys the company of other dogs and will gladly walk, play and even follow them into shallow water at the beach. He is slightly scared of the hose but thoroughly enjoys being brushed and the massage that comes with applying shampoo. Ned doesn’t seem to have much experience with riding in the car but has improved whilst in foster care.
Whilst he has been an only dog with his current carers, Ned would love a family with another dog to keep him company or to be with someone who is home more often than not. He is good with other dogs and children over 5 years. Ned’s love for his family would mean he would be best suited to sleeping indoors and during the day being allowed to move freely between the house and backyard.
Whilst he has not attempted to escape, he can jump fairly high to catch his tennis ball so a minimum 1.5m fence would be essential.
For more information on Ned, please contact his foster carer on their email
madelineparr1@gmail.com, Ned is in foster care in Waratah West, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
