About Cujo
Requirements
-A patient, experienced owner who is home majority of the time.
-No young children or grandchildren.
-No other pets.
- No dog parks or off lead areas.
-An owner who understands the importance of slow introductions and positive training.
-An owner who is prepared to continue with medication and treatment for his heart issue which is described in the medical notes.
Cujos personality is unique, he is a dramatic dog with a dramatic personality that is loving, confident, boisterous and silly. He’s a little doggie comedian and everyone that meets him falls in love with his big goofy eyes and cute smooshed face. He LOVES his people and gets overly excited everytime we come home, it’s really cute and very sweet.
Cujo will only be suited to a home where he has someone home often. He needs to be allowed indoors to be part of the family. He needs to sleep indoors and must not be left outside in hot weather. It took cujo a lot of time to be really comfortable with us, he wasn’t a fan of us getting in his personal space at the start and he’s still like that with new people where he likes to decide whether or not he wants to come up and be all over you. With time he loves playing with us and cuddles but a strong relationship definitely has to be established first. He is generally really good with meeting new people but he is really strong and is a jumper, he will need to be supervised always when meeting someone new. Sometimes with men he gets protective but we have only seen this happen twice in the 8 months we have had him, where he stares at them and can get reactive, once he is comfortable though he is great. He does have a bad habit of liking to lick peoples faces as well.
Cujo has a lot of quirks, if he is bored or hasn’t gone for a walk he will get into rubbish bins or anything that has the smell of food on it. He is big enough that he can even get into the curb side bins and we have come home to him having tipped them over and rummaged through them, so they will need to be somewhere he can’t access them.
On lead he is very strong, he will pull and we have been working with him on this, we also noticed Cujo has a very protective nature about him, at the start he never used to pay attention to people on walks but always dogs (he cries and barks sometimes when seeing them) but as he’s spent more time with us he gets more protective, when he sees people on walks he will sometimes bark or do a little growl, him showing these signs warrants an owner to exercise caution with him and be responsible about not letting new people approach him or rush him especially when he’s on lead.
When passing people he doesn’t know whilst on a walk he can be protective, it’s best to avoid people out on walks.
He LOVES toys, we have a big basket of toys and his favourite thing is to randomly go to it and start pulling out toys and running around with them. He loves zoomies in the house and gets riled up and excited easily which is very cute, he will listen if you tell him to stop or calm down, but if you entertain him (which we often do) he will run around and he finds it lots of fun.
He is a good sleeper and will sleep right through the night, indoors, he will cry to wake you up if he needs to go out.
Cujo does better in cold weather than in hot weather, in hot weather shorter walks will need to be had as he overheats quickly or mental stimulation activities at home.
Cujo is 50/50 with dogs, his recall is non existent if he sees people or dogs and will go straight up to them. He is best being kept away from dog parks or public off lead areas. He knows how to sit, shake, wait for food. He has also been trained with a muzzle for walks if needed.
Cujo is a very special very sweet and hilarious dog, he’s unique in so many ways and never fails to make everyone laugh. He will need a family that is patient and kind with him but alalso that has structure and can appreciate his quirks and antics.
The breed is to the best of our knowledge from the information we've been given.
*Please only apply if you are ready to meet and adopt this pet now, and if all family members are in support of the adoption.*
Medical notes
When we originally took Cujo for his desexing the vet noticed his heart wasn't sounding right and it was a bit erratic so
we arranged for him to see a Cardiologist. Sadly he has been diagnosed with Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) which is a common genetic disease in Boxers.
He was prescribed medication which he will need to take for the rest of his life to help reduce the risk of sudden death. A few months after starting the medication he had to be fitted with a 24 heart monitor to see if the medication was having the desired result. He will need to go through this process every 12 months to make sure he's still receiving the most suitable medication. The heart monitor is fitted by a vet and the results are assessed the Cardiologist who will determine the best course of action regarding ongoing treatment and medication. This is a financial commitment his new owners must be willing to take on as part of his adoption agreement. We will pass on his medical notes to his new owner.

Adoption details
If you think one of our animals would be a good match for your home please email us and we will be in touch shortly after. We all work fulltime, have families and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
