About Kamo Polkington
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Kamo is a sweet and affectionate dog with lots of charm and personality. Going for an outing is the highlight of his day. He dances around with excitement when you’re trying to put his lead on. He loves running around a park, greeting and interacting with the other dogs and checking out all sights and scents. He certainly doesn’t act like a senior but much less than his 9 years. Perhaps it is his healthy rural background.
He’s very alert and smart, always interested in watching what’s going on and learns quickly. Once he’s had his walk he’s a great work-from-home companion who’s quite content to chill out on the couch. He’s responsive and will come when called and sits for treats. He’ll also suddenly appear if you’re preparing or eating chicken (his favourite food) just in case a piece falls on the ground!
Kamo’s foster family have been working on his lead training and he’s come along leaps and bounds, however, he still needs some more work as he has a tendency to pull. He’s also been working hard on his on-lead socialisation and is doing well there too, but he can still be reactive to other dogs when on lead if he doesn’t get to say hello. He’s improved quite quickly as he responds very well to treat training and positive reinforcement.
Kamo loves his humans and the more time he spends with them the more that he trusts them. Kamo is house trained and in his current foster home he loves to spend his evening sitting on or near the couch giving his foster parents gentle licks.
He’ll need to learn how to use a dog door and will spend most of his time indoors as he really thrives around people and is very sociable. He loves hugs and cuddles and will roll onto his back for tummy rubs. He also gets great enjoyment from car rides.
While he’s very active and sociable, especially outdoors, he can be easily startled by indoor noises so is not suited to a household with younger children. We think this is because he spent most of former life as an outdoor dog. As he’s spent time with his foster family his confidence has grown and his wonderful personality and lovable nature have really shone through. He’s untested with cats. He was very wary of his foster siblings, pugs, to begin with – in fact he hid under the bed – but once he has met a dog he is fine. During his brief stay in the country he was foster cared with a rotty and he was fine.
Kamo is a wonderfully rewarding dog who will thrive with an active lifestyle and loves being around his humans. He would be fine as an only dog or rehomed with another dog, but he would not be a playmate for them, just there.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

We look forward to receiving your application.
