About Milou
Pomeranian x Chihuahua weighing in at a tiny 6.6 kilos
He is a cheeky and playful little fella who also loves to play, yet is happy to be outside or just chill in his bed or next to you. He is well behaved & is extremely happy to see you .
He has come out of his shell and shows us that he wants to play by running to, and digging through his toy box to bring you his favorite teddy.
He can be a little nervous and cautious when meeting new people
OBEDIENCE
+ Is quite well behaved. At home he is relaxed and likes to chill on the sofa / in his bed that is inside his crate or relaxing outside on the grass.
+ He loves his soft toys as these are fun to play with, but also provide him comfort to chew upon when relaxing.
- Will need further training on (staying) as he is very quick at trying to run out of the front door.
- Is beginning to be toilet trained. He knows he has to go outside but on the odd occasion he gets lazy and may pee inside. He will typically let you know that he needs toilet time by hanging by the back door.
Milou loves to go for walks, getting excited when he hears the word "walk". He patiently sits and waits for the harness to be put on and knows this is time for his walk. He does become very vocal and anxious at the sight of other dogs though, and needs reassurance and continued training to support his social skills.
Whilst Milou doesn’t mind children but we are seeking older children in residence
By the way, if he cant find his teddy, he may grab the closest thing that may entertain him (socks, scrunchies, face masks)
ENRICHMENT
Milou has a great amount of energy, will bark at the sight of possums or birds and "may" bark along with neighbouring dogs to get their attention.
He likes to view the world from inside, looking out of screen doors and windows and may bark at movement/dogs etc.
He is happy to relax at home, although loves to explore the outdoors as well. Time spent in the back yard and out for regular walks are appreciated and helps burn some of that energy. Loves his teddy and enjoys playing fetch with the teddy being thrown around.
We have made our back door open throughout the day and he regularly wanders out to the back yard for a sunbake / toilet.
SLEEPING
He has been sleeping inside, whilst he usually starts to relax at around 9pm, his typical bedtime is from 10:00pm until 6.00am. Throughout the day he spends most of his time inside and outside whilst we are working from home. He is generally very well mannered, has had slight toilet issues during the day but not at night. To help him settle at night, he will need his comfort teddies. We have kept a small night light on in the room
During the first few nights he did cry a little at the start, although some reassurance to settle and relax him has worked well and he sleeps with no problems now.
SOCIALISATION
Milou has had very little interaction with other dogs. Whilst out for his walks he does appear to be intimidated by other dogs, will bark at them and wants to run towards them.
He has shown playful cheeky affection to all of us equally and is happy to sit or follow us around curiously. He has had a number of people visit during his stay and when meeting new people, he may be a little nervous and cautious, and doesn’t really like being around larger dogs.
We feel that Milou would be best suited to an only dog home until he settles in as he can become agitated by other dogs.
IDEAL HOME
We feel Milou would thrive in a home with mature kids 10yrs+ and older, who are home regularly and can spend time relaxing and playing with him. Milou is an inside dog and will let you know if he needs/wants to go outside. His family will need to invest time in him and ensure he has daily enrichment and continues to support training in the social setting, along with setting clear rules around behavior when walking and not running away and continued toilet behaviors.
