About Tucky. Gentle, loyal companion ๐
Tucky is the sweetest little lady with so much love to give! She loves attention and will rub her head on you a thousand times.
Her favourite thing apart from bopping soccer balls around, is to wander a little away from you and flop on her back inviting you to tickle her belly, she loves it, she purrs like crazy and her little white paws knead the air while she's upside down ๐ฅฐ
She has a polite, respectful, gentle little personality that so clearly wants your love but is never demanding or sassy about it. She'll do little mews when she's excited to see you but if you need time alone she's happy to do her own thing for awhile.
Tucky loves other cats and would adjust to an easy-going dog who will allow her space while getting to know each other. She's independent and good at keeping herself entertained but we would love to see her have an easy going, gentle friend for company.
Her ideal home is with a quiet person or couple, or small family with older teens. Someone who will treat her as family.

Medical notes
Tucky is FIV positive however please don't click off her profile on reading this! FIV is an unnecessary and heartbreaking barrier to beautifully natured cats like Tucky, finding homes.
Regardless of FIV, Tucky would love to be the only can in your home as she's one of those cats who just wants to be a loyal, loving little companion for her person or people. She has so much love to give ๐
What is FIV:
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus means the immune system of the cat is not as strong as a non FIV catโs, and that general illnesses will be a little tougher for the catโs body to fight. Some FIV cats go on to live a normal, full life with few health concerns, however the majority do have a bit of a shorter life due to the wear and tear on their body. We think of FIV cats as very special as they arenโt aware they have FIV so behave just like any other cat, but need a bit of extra love and focus from us, like special needs animals do. For this reason adopting an FIV cat is hugely rewarding, thereโs something about giving them that special love that brings out the best in us humans.
The easiest way to understand Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is to think of HIV in humans - it causes a weakened immune system. The immune system of cats with FIV needs a bit of help to fight general illnesses. We give them this help through good nutrition, low stress, inside living and regular vet checks.
How cats contract FIV:
FIV is usually contracted through deep bite wounds when cats fight on the street. There is a small number of females infected through mating and a small number of kittens who contract it from mum, but generally it's a male cat condition. FIV cats should be kept indoors permanently to keep them healthy and avoid them getting into fights and passing on the condition, or being bitten and having to fight a resulting infection.
Is it more expensive to own an FIV positive cat?
A little, but not more than a good owner would invest in their cat anyway. FIV cats need a good brand of quality food and these can be purchased in bulk online, lowering the cost substantially. We also recommend 6-monthly vet checks which can either entail a simple examination to check the catโs overall health, or a blood test to check whether the FIV has progressed to any further state in the body.
There are some supplements that can be purchased online and may assist in immune boosting. Overall owning an FIV cat should not cost more than adopting a kitten who will need having regular vet checks and vaccinations.
Is FIV a risk to your existing cat?
FIV is transferred by deep bite wounds where the FIV cat's saliva and the other cat's blood mix, which means there has to be a serious fight for transference to happen.
Thanks for taking the time to read this bit of Tucky's profile and give FIV cats a chance <3

Adoption details
*** PLEASE NOTE OUR INDOOR CAT POLICY
Most of our cats were either born, or lived for some time, on the street and have only ever known the outside world to be a source of fear and survival of the fittest. So although they've been rehabilitated and are in most ways domesticated by the time they're ready for adoption, they WILL return to fearful behaviour if ever let outside.
Hence we have an indoor only policy (or indoor with access to an enclosure, netted area or trained leash walking) unless clearly stated in an individual cat's profile. Please consider this before making an enquiry. Thankyou <3

Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity, foster care network and private shelter, focusing on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of โtrue strayโ cats - cats who've never had experience with humans or a human home. You can support us in our important work by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page. Thankyou! ๐
Here's a little more about us:
We run a donation funded shelter in semi-rural Avalon, that was previously used for dog breeding. When we took ownership of the property, our hard working volunteers spent many months transforming the building into a bright and colourful environment featuring 7 large, fully enclosed pens about the size of an average living room, an isolation pen capable of housing 8 cats (which is often a colony/family who come in together), an intake and examination room, laundry and office. With it's bright interior and serene setting, it's a therapeutic setting for animals who come in terrified and traumatised by their past, but also our volunteers who find their weekly shifts away from the hustle and bustle of life, relaxing and rejuvenating.
The overall objective of our organisation is to:
๐ successfully physically and psychologically rehabilitate terrified cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
๐ remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they will never breed again or be back on the street again,
๐ provide an example of the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
๐ educate the community on how many stray cats are hiding in the dark corners of community trying to survive and that desexing is the only way to begin to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
๐ provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn animal husbandry and handling skills to a high level which may help them in their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
๐ and provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool their skills for the betterment of a demographic of animal that is mostly ignored and misunderstood despite us humans being their source and the reason they even exist.
Can you help us?
You can donate directly to the cat in this profile by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page, or contact us if you'd like to sponsor a street cat's rehab and housing which can take anywhere from 6 months to 3 years.
As a small team without government or corporate funding, our services are in constant demand and our resources stretched, we need shelter volunteers, foster carers, financial and in-kind donations, and supporters to help spread the word. Contact us if you'd like to help, we'd love to hear from you! <3
