About Woody
This gentle, affectionate and well-mannered young dog is WOODY, a Border Collie x Red Cattle Dog with one blue eye and one brown eye. He was born on 19 January 2021 and weighs 19.2 kgs (as at 1 February 2022).
Woody is a thoroughly charming young dog, eager to please, intelligent, loyal and undemanding. We were surprised when he was surrendered to us because he has all the qualities that a lover of working dog breeds would want in a companion dog.
He has settled into his foster home as if he's always lived there. He has made great friends with the resident dogs and has reached a working compromise with the cat. He has had limited, but uneventful, exposure to the horses.
Woody loves spending hours in the shed with his foster dad. Whether Woody's working hard or hardly working, we're not sure, but he loves hanging out with his humans. He follows his foster mum around the house and is keen to be wherever his family members are.
Woody's foster mum says he's "a real gentleman". He has "beautiful food manners and is very gentle when taking a treat".
He knows his basic commands and his recall is exemplary. He has an innate sense of what's right and was put to the test a couple of weeks ago when his family were out for the day. He'd only been with his foster family for a week and, though he is capable of jumping the fence, he was waiting patiently on the verandah for them when they got home.
Woody responds well to new people and is happy to be on the receiving end of a pat or a cuddle, but is not needy. He has had no exposure to children since being in care, but being the gentle soul he is, we think he'd be fine with children.
He would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time and there is at least one compatible dog for him to play with.
His exercise needs are modest. Aside from playing with a canine pal, he is content with a vigorous 15 minute play session or a good walk every day.
Prior working dog experience will be well regarded.
His adoption fee is $650 and he is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.
If you are interested in meeting him, we'd love to hear from you. As a first step, please complete our online adoption application at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/
Woody lives in Warwick, Queensland. For suitable applicants who are unable to travel to Warwick, we are happy to organise a "virtual" meet and greet, via Facetime or Google Duo.
