About Ghost
Ghost is an 8 month old, deaf Great Dane cross Mastiff currently with SAFE Metro and GDLAWA are assisting with his rehome. He is a loveable, cuddly, playful goofball who can also be quite the handful at times. He is looking for an extremely dedicated home to work with him through his training.
Currently in foster care, Ghost is learning all sorts of useful life skills but it’s very much a work in progress. Being on his own is still difficult and requires careful planning and management to ensure minimal destruction and to maintain a happy calm (as can be) pup. He is slowly building his independence and improving with his separation anxiety which is really encouraging. His new home will need to be able to take the time to build up his time spent alone over a good few weeks before he will cope with a full workday at home alone.
Ghost isn’t a super high energy dog but has puppy energy that needs to be channelled into appropriate activities so a walk or two/training session each day is essential.
Like most giant puppies, Ghost shows little control over his growing body at times and is rather clumsy. He does his best to be gentle in most situations however doesn’t always succeed. He’s been around some cats and whilst he’s not hurt any of them due to careful management, he’s a bit too interested in chasing and playing rough for us to consider him living with one.
Ghost has been able to interact nicely with the dogs he’s met when the time is taken for a controlled introduction. We are looking for an experience large dog owner to continue with Ghost’s training and keep him on track to become a good grown-up canine citizen. Ghost has shown some less desirable behaviours around other dogs when totally left to his own decision making. For this reason, we feel he will do well as an only dog who has lots of opportunity to continue to socialise carefully and he can be the focus of the home for his training.
Ghost has shown to be too rough with younger children and is still learning not to mouth in play so he is best suited to a home with no children or older children who can contribute to his education.
At this stage he doesn’t seem to be overly interested in fluffy toys like a typical Great Dane but he’s learning how to entertain himself with a Kong while his foster parents are out and starting to happily spend a little time wandering in and out of a crate. He’s taken a fancy to his rope toy and his appetite for food-based training is also increasing.
Ghost’s onlead walking is coming along nicely. He is happy to keep quite close by and is doing well meeting new people both in the home and out and about. Ghost loves to be with his people and will need to be able be an inside dog. When outside in the sun, care will need to be taken to protect his cute pink nose.
This is one adorable boy who will bring all sorts of joy to a home. If you’re up for the challenge of raising not only a giant puppy but a deaf one, please get in touch.

Ghost is deaf.
