About Calais
Please meet sweet and affectionate CALAIS, a pedigreed (no papers) Golden Retriever, born on 21 November 2017.
Her rescue story started with a tennis ball. Calais loves balls so much that she ate one and it became lodged in her intestine. By the time she was surrendered to us, she was one very sick dog, but we were determined to save her at any cost. And her surgery and hospitalisation cost plenty - $2,899.20 to be exact - which is why her adoption fee is much higher than usual. But the good news is that she's made a full recovery and now has a second chance at living life to the full.
Calais is everything you would expect of a Golden Retriever. She is outgoing, playful, extremely affectionate and eager to please. She loves people, is great with other dogs and is also cat-friendly.
She is a quiet dog and doesn't bark. In fact, her foster mum says the only time she barks is in her sleep.
Like most dogs, Calais loves to chew on bones, sticks and just about anything else available, but sometimes she directs her chewing behaviour towards inappropriate items, such as tennis balls!
Her new home will need to be "dog-proofed" so that inappropriate items that could end up in her intestine are removed or locked away. For this reason, she's probably not suited to a home with younger children.
She is food-focused - no surprises there - and needs to learn better manners in this respect. For instance, it's not okay to snatch food out of the hands of your humans. Her foster mum is working on this.
She has a lot of energy and requires plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. She would be best suited to an active household where someone is around most of the time and/or there is another compatible dog for her to play with. She loves humans too much to be left at home alone for extended periods.
Calais has not had pups and was desexed, microchipped and vaccinated on 13 January 2022 in readiness for rehoming.
Her adoption fee is $2,000. Please understand that we have spent almost twice that on giving Calais a second chance at life and are now trying to recoup some of our costs.
Calais lives in Warwick, Queensland and is available for interstate adoption.
