About Maisie
This seven month old little sweetheart is a bit timid at first but loves a good snuggle once she is comfortable with you and has endless love to give. She is exceptionally good natured and plays well with other dogs once she’s gotten used to them. She has an air of maturity that is quite extraordinary but is still an energetic pup underneath. Once she is comfortable with you she may get a little excited and jump up but she just needs reminding that this isn’t appropriate. She is a puppy after all.
Maisie walks reasonably well on the lead. Each new situation needs careful contemplation until she feels comfortable and then she’s ready to go on. She can be a bit barky when she encounters new dogs but is quickly learning that that isn’t appropriate behaviour and is much improved. She also needs reminding that the neighbours are allowed to make a noise and that she shouldn’t sticky beak at the fence but she’s learning and responding to training well.
Maisie is reasonably house trained and being taught to relieve on command. This training will need to be continued to reinforce it and you’ll need to watch her inside until she’s settled and you understand each other.
She’s not unduly reactive to thunder and lightning and happily played through the recent storms.
She is bright and learns fast. She has learned she’s not allowed in the kitchen while someone is working in there and lies quietly at the entrance watching; she’s learned that furniture is for humans and not her (although she sometimes needs reminding when excited), she’s learned to sit and drop on command; after only a few times in the car she’s learned to jump in and sit quietly while you put her harness on. She is fine spending a couple of hours in a crate, as well as overnight.
Maisie is not too sure about water games and looks at my Border Collie in sheer amazement, bordering on horror, when she jumps into the paddling pool and splashes around. That may change as she matures and with gentle encouragement.
She loves having a bone or toy to chew but still needs to be watched to make sure that it’s not the skirting board or chair leg she’s progressed to! She loves ‘helping’ in the garden and is a brilliant little companion. Be prepared for a few holes to appear in the lawn or flowerbeds though – she is only a puppy. She’s steady as a rock with the lawn-mower and neither chases it nor flees in terror. She just keeps a respectful distance.
Currently, she needs to be kept occupied when awake or she will find something to do all by herself. She’s still a puppy and this will probably change as she matures.
She is funny, cute and a whole load of happiness. She shouldn’t walk too far at the moment as her bones and joints are still developing but, once mature, I think she’d be up for a nice relaxed ramble every day.
Maisie is a work-in-progress and will need ongoing socialisation, mental stimulation and training, with TLC, to help her mature into the wonderful dog she is on the way to becoming. She will make a very loving companion to a lucky someone. You’ll need to put the time in with this little girl but she will be so worth it!
Please email Lorraine with an expression of interest for Maisie.
