About Hemlock
Meet the gorgeous Hemlock!
This little (soon-to-be big) guy will most definitely steal your heart. Hemlock loves kissing your nose, treats and falling asleep at your feet. He is a true companion who thoroughly enjoys being around his humans, being held for cuddles and relaxing on the couch beside you. Hemlock is also very playful pup who enjoys play time and his toys. When meeting new people it can take him a few minutes to warm up to them but then he is more than willing to have some fun. Hemlock is a loveable pup and quite literally has made every single person he’s met fall instantly in love with his incredible personality and looks!
Don’t be mistaken by his looks though – he is not going to be kelpie size even though he has similar colouring. Hemlock is going to be a larger dog (estimating 30-35kg when fully grown) and he will require substantial daily exercise and mental stimulation throughout his life. He currently isn’t living with other dogs, but he loves having doggy play dates so would be more than suitable to live with another playful medium-large sized dog. As he grows up he will need positive socialisation experiences with other friendly dogs as well to keep him social.
Hemlock was found in remote bushland in rural NSW so his foster family have been catching him up on some basic training. He can sit on command and is now learning drop, shake and roll over. Hemlock is progressing well with his toilet training and is starting to work out that if he sits at the back door someone will open it for him to go out. As he is not fully vaccinated yet, he hasn’t been on proper walks. Hemlock has started being taught how to walk on a lead but gets a bit overwhelmed by the noises of city life and will require someone who is able to walk him in quieter areas and build his confidence over time with training.
Hemlock is currently being crate trained and he happily sleeps in there with no fuss; however, he does not respond well to being left there when his foster family leave the house. In this situation he is does fine just left in an enclosed/fenced off area of the home where he can still roam a little. As a pup, he is still testing out what can go in his mouth to chew on and play with (like those shoes left around) but does respond to verbal correction to drop them and leave.
Hemlock is still learning how to play appropriately his human friends without using his mouth and he can sometimes take play a bit too far but responds well to correction. Considering this, young children will not be a good fit and he would be better suited to a home with dog savvy older teenagers or above who are able to partake in the consistent guidance and training required.
We are looking for a dog experienced home for Hemlock where he will be a part of the family. It is imperative that his new owners engage in ongoing dog training classes with him (puppy school alone is not sufficient enough) to continue to build his confidence and skills. Hemlock will require a home with another playful medium-large dog or where someone is home more often than not to give him companionship. He has not been exposed to cats or pocket pets, but an experienced handler could provide the appropriate training for him to co-exist with other types of animals. Hemlock is not suitable for apartment living and will require a yard.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
