About Sully
Sully is a buckskin Australian Riding Pony that is approximately 12hh.
When Sully arrived at the RSPCA he was in pretty bad condition. He has slightly worn front teeth from having little to no pasture, but this hasn't caused him to have any issues.
He has been a frightened little pony, and was very difficult to catch. He didn't realise he was missing out on so much love. He has started to trust his human friends now, they are patient with him, give him treats, cuddles and brushes, which he loves. He is a good boy to catch now, even out in a big paddock, he just needs you to approach him very slowly and calmly so he feels safe.
Sully does lead well however he is a ball of energy and will jig jog to show off at times. He can tie up and is improving all of the time when getting a bath.
He was relatively unhandled when he arrived here at Peninsula, so having his feet and legs touched was very scary for him. He has improved with picking up his front feet, and while he can be pretty good with his back feet for the people he is familiar with and trusts, he needs a lot of extra work on this. When the farrier comes he can be nervous and can have trouble letting him do his back feet. However, he is trying super hard to get better with this, so with some more practise, he will be a pro in no time.
Being touched was also a stressful thing for Sully, he used to be a very tense little pony, but now, he love cuddles with the people he knows. He needs slow and steady, consistent desensitising to different things touching him and happening around him.
Sully is still very young, and has lots of learning left to do, and because he is a sensitive boy, he would love a home with someone who is experienced with young horses and will handle him regularly, and in turn, he will become a wonderful little pony and family member for you.
Unfortunately due to a problem with one of his back legs he is intermittently lame and the vets have said he won't be sound enough to be a ridden pony, however he would make a great companion for another pony or horse.
Please apply for Sully now if you feel he would fit into your life! He can't wait to meet you!
