Tubby Tucker is affectionate, sensitive, playful, inquisitive and a very intelligent ball of energy. He loves at least 2 daily walks, meeting other dogs and running around like most puppies. He is very fond of his toys and treats. During the day, he follows you around the house, snoozing close by while you work. He sleeps in his crate close to his humans at night. He is being toilet trained but sometimes has accidents. He knows to go outside to toilet, if you miss his cues asking to go out, he will choose a spot of his convenience inside! He is fine in the car and a star at the vets but not a big fan of baths.
He is easily stimulated and will need some desensitization around loud moving objects (brooms, vacuum cleaners etc). He can occasionally be mouthy (as he is teething) and needs appropriate toys to chew on, boredom busters and supervision.
Time, patience, repetition, and praise will take this puppy and you far. He has learned basic commands (sit, drop, leave it) and walking on lead and is improving every day. He responds well to positive reinforcement during training and easily redirected with a stern ah aah. He needs a patient. loving but firm companion who can take him to obedience classes and help him to be his best self. A household that has had experience with the staffy breed before as well as some puppy experience would be best suited as he can be quite stubborn and needs some help to settle when excited (mostly because he wants to keep playing with other dogs).
He MUST be allowed inside the house and be treated as part of the family. He would not be suited to an outdoor only environment as all he wants to do is be close to his humans. His favourite place in the whole world is the couch, followed by the kitchen. He waits patiently for treats to magically fall out of the pantry.
He will need someone who is home most of the time at this stage as he is currently having three meals a day, will need to be taken out for toilet breaks, needs constant supervision to make sure he doesn’t get into any mischief and of course love and comfort from his new family.
Final comment: After an initial rough start to life, Tubby Tucker is now ready for a wonderful home where he will be adored and looked after for the rest of his life. This little puppy needs some patience and training, but you will be rewarded in spades as he has so much love to give. Everyone who meets him falls in love instantly - whoever adopts him will be very lucky indeed!
