About Snitzel
Snitzel the Shih Tzu is full of personality and character – he definitely doesn’t act his age! He loves to roll around in his bed like a crazy boy and to get tummy rubs but nothing beats a good butt scratch. Snitzel loves to be around his people and will even talk to you with his funny little growly noises. When he is excited, he jumps up and down and play bows – you can’t help but smile and laugh at him. Snitzel is a very and friendly and happy dog around his family. His favourite thing to do has to be going for a walk! When the lead comes out he knows what it is all about. He requires a daily walk of about 30mins on lead where he gets to do some sniffing and marking.
Snitzel has lived as an only dog throughout his life and had virtually no socialisation with others. Because of this he ideal to go to a home as an only dog again and he is fine being left alone. While in foster care he has been living with other dogs and his lack of socialisation shows as he mirrors the body language of other dogs (if the other dog is calm and relaxed, he is too but if they are tense and nervous, so is he). Snitzel can also have times where he becomes overstimulated, and he becomes too invasive around other dogs which gets him in trouble from them. If he is going to be homed with another dog, they would need to be very stable and calm natured but possibly able to gently correct any inappropriate behaviour like mounting.
Snitzel knows how to sit on command and walks well on the lead. However, he will pull a bit and get a bit hyped up when he passes other dogs. As a result, we are looking for someone who lives and will be walking in an area where he is not going to have to be exposed to a huge number of passing dogs. At home he is well behaved inside the house, is toilet trained and will sit on his bed with instruction. He enjoys sitting by the front door and watching the world go by. Snitzel also enjoys being out in the backyard and is not a nuisance barker. He will have a short bark if there are noises over the fence but will stop when told.
We are looking for a dog experienced home for Snitzel where he will be included as part of the family. He should be allowed to be inside and have a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night. We are looking for a home with a yard or courtyard, not a unit environment. Snitzel will require regular brushing and professional grooming to keep him looking good. He shows too much interest in the resident cat to be rehomed with a cat but is ok around the bird cages. Snitzel is suitable for full time workers as long as you are not getting home too late in the evening as he likes his dinner before 6pm and will be more than ready for some love and attention.
Snitzel has been previously reported to be territorial at home and sometimes not the most welcoming to visitors. This is something his new owner will need to be prepared to manage moving forward once he settles in and considers his new environment home. Management may mean restriction (tying up/crating/putting in the yard) when visitors come or may be something that can be worked on with positive reinforcement training. Due to this information, we will not rehome him with children and will be looking for a quieter home that has fewer visitors. When out and about on walks to the shops he has been friendly meeting new people and gives little licks.

Medical notes
Had a general blood test done and all was well. Ears are a bit yeasty and may require cleaning regularly in humid weather. He would benefit from being on a fresh food diet to help with this as well - he currently is eating and loving Prime 100 single protein rolls.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
