About Rick
Rick only came into care in December 2021 but is already proving to be a real sweetheart!
Rick is a typical sphynx and loves to be all up in your business all the time and would make a wonderful companion. He deserves to be absolutely spoilt, with lots of opportunities for enrichment and play. Rick would suit a home where he can have lots of love and attention, with someone who is home a lot as he can get lonely and this can be a source of stress for him. With a proper introduction he could probably live with a kitty friend (it may even be beneficial for him!). Rick would best suit a mature home, or one with older children - he has previously lived with a young child and whilst they loved each other it did seem to stress him out a bit.
We are hoping to find him a home with previous sphynx experience, knowledge of the breed and their needs is a must.
Rick is currently doing well on Ziwi Peak Lamb wet food, and he uses his litter with no issues.
Rick requires an indoor only home, though access to an outdoor cat enclosure would also be great as long as there are some nice shady spots to hide from the sun!
Medical notes
Rick is fully vaccinated, flea & worm treated and tested negative for FIV/FelV.
Rick came into care with some skin issues that were making him very uncomfortable, we believe they were caused by an allergy to chicken and he also has a condition called urticaria pigmentosa. A change in diet to a different protein (currently lamb) and antihistamines (periactin) have improved his skin dramatically and he is doing really well.
We have confirmed periactin is okay for Rick to be on long term if needed (you can buy it for about $10 for a pack of 100 over the counter at your local chemist!), he is currently taking half a tablet morning and night. We are going to try reducing his dose to see if his skin condition remains controlled with less medication, eventually he might only need half a tablet every other day.
Rick can be also be prone to cystitis when stressed so care would need to be taken to ensure he drinks enough water, feels comfortable and safe and has lots of enrichment in his new home. We recommend using a water fountain to help encourage him to drink and maintaining his wet food only diet, and also things like feliway.
