Koda

Every dog has a story, but Koda's is a little bit special.

Born in September 2020, Koda arrived in care with seven playful puppies in tow and another 10 in utero. She delivered her second litter in October 2021.

So by the time Koda was 13 months old and barely more than a pup herself, she'd given birth to 17 pups. A devoted and patient mum, Koda's pups were simply adorable, but now it's her turn in the spotlight.

Being a mum for most of her short life has shaped Koda. She is affectionate, protective, loyal, assertive and mature beyond her years.

She loves nothing more than the company of her human family and her special human friends, one of whom is our Boss who rescued her. Although Koda is not a girl who jumps up on people, she makes an exception when it comes to the Boss. Imagine a look of pure canine joy, followed by a crazy doggie hug that involves her putting her front paws around the Boss's waist, just as a delighted child would.

Although incredibly affectionate, Koda is also undemanding. She doesn't beg for attention and is comfortable in her own company. She is good at entertaining herself in the backyard.

When it comes to other dogs, she draws a distinction between dogs she knows and loves, such as her canine mates at her foster home, and other dogs. She is fine with dogs that don't invade her personal space, but objects if they do. For these reasons, we think she'd be best suited to a home where she's the only dog.

Koda is also protective. When she's out and about with her family, she can become wary of strangers that approach too closely. Having said that, she doesn't bark if someone comes to the door or a pedestrian walks by her home.

A typical kelpie, Koda is clever, eager to please and highly trainable. She walks very well on a lead and responds to verbal corrections such as “Koda, no”. She is toilet-trained and will sound the bark alarm if she needs to go outside. She sleeps well at night and waits patiently for the house to wake up in the morning. She has had very limited exposure to children.

Koda's favourite activities include riding in the car, playing fetch in the backyard and watching animal shows on TV.

Preference will be given to homes where someone is around most of the time. Prior experience with kelpies or other Aussie working dog breeds will be highly regarded. As always, secure fencing is essential.

Koda's adoption fee is $695 and she is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.
