About Toby - Melbourne
Toby is a sweet companion. He needs moderate exercise but is happy to snooze the day away with you in between. He’s an ideal housemate for a retiree or someone working from home. Providing he gets his walks, he is happy to chill while you work or go about your chores. He’d love you to be at home with him 24/7 but OK if you need to duck out for a couple of hours.
Toby is learning to be a brave boy. He has made great progress in foster care. At first Toby was a total scaredy-cat on his walks but is becoming more confident and relaxed in his new life as a rescued hound. With the patience of his loving foster Mum he is less scared of the outside world with all those loud noises. Toby will still need an a patient owner to help him on his journey. He would also appreciate regular walks with a suitable canine friend.
In the home Toby is very polite, no bench surfing or barking. He knows the human couch and bed are out of bounds. He will get excited when you have human visitors and he will do his best to get as many cuddle and tummy rubs as possible from you and your visitor. Toby will tap you with his paw to suggest its not time to stop the petting yet.
Toby is happy living with another greyhound in foster care but also happy to be an only dog to get all the attention. He loves any play initiated by his human, maybe a bit of chasey or peek-a-boo. To get his attention, a squeaky toy is a favourite.
Toby is a gorgeous affectionate boy in search of a home where his humans can show confidence and patience and let him blossom in the outside world.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
