About Sarge
What a handsome fella is Sarge! With a gorgeous zest for the everyday Sarge can’t wait to find his best mate to share the adventures of life with him. His touch of sensitivity means he will suit a calm clear leader to see him reach his full potential.
Sarge sits on command, waits for his dinner until released, and takes treats very gently when offered a reward. Sarge is learning not to pull on the lead, and with the odd clear reminder, he is becoming an excellent companion on long walks around the quiet roads where he is fostered. Sarge is a fantastic running buddy, he keeps pace easily and has the stamina to stay the course!
Sarge is fostered on acreage. He happily stays in the fenced house yard if left home, and if out around the farm with you he remains in the vicinity of his humans. If he ventures further to explore, a whistle sees him bound into sight in no time. Sarge loves to zoom and stretch his legs in the paddocks.
He is a little too fascinated by kangaroos and needs reminding to leave distractions such as these alone. If you are busy in the workshop, he will entertain himself pottering around the garden, checking in with each human, or snooze nearby while waiting to accompany you on another errand. Sarge loves nothing more than to share the adventures of the day with his crew.
Sarge is not a city cultured dog. The quiet wide-open spaces are Sarge’s preference. While he loves his doggie friends, initial introductions are best undertaken slowly - a walk alongside each other will see Sarge make a new best mate in no time! No dog parks for this country lad at heart!
Sarge is polite when coming inside at night, readily sitting and waiting in the entrance when asked, before trotting to his mat in the living room where he sleeps overnight without a peep. Simple routines encourage Sarge to feel confident, and a place where he is expected to stay put (like his mat inside) should be part of his ongoing routine.
Sarge has learnt that travelling in the ute is fun and he jumps up in the tray readily. He travels well in cars generally. At home, he respects his grumpy older kelpie foster sister’s rules and likes to lark about with his foster brother. The appearance of the lead is always a welcome sight as it means doing something with his human.
Sarge is a sensitive soul and can become overwhelmed. He leaps with exuberance and confidently tries to bale up the horses or greets you with adorable enthusiasm and vivaciousness. Yet from time to time, he can raise his hackles or hide in the garden. If he is wary, he may slink down in submission or lick at your hands in a placating way. Sarge would become hassled if he perceived he is being “forced” into a situation. With a confident and clear leader that equally provides fair expectations and encouragement Sarge’s clever and considerate personality will blossom.
Sarge is a beautiful soul. He would be best with a single person or couple (or possibly a household with teenage/adult children) that have plenty of time to spend with him. He loves fresh air, exercise, and human company.
He would do well with the right doggy mate but having his humans to himself will suit him just fine. With the right Captain in his life, Sarge is a dog anyone would be proud to have in their squad.
