About Quito ~ 7.5yr Mixed Breed ~ On Hold 20/1/22
Quito is a handsome 7.5 year old medium-sized mixed-breed boy looking for his furever home. We think he may be a hound (perhaps a Beagle) cross with Basenji cross with a little bit of Mastiff to add some height and laziness! Quito’s photos make him look small but he’s approximately Border Collie or Kelpie size .
Regardless of breed this boy is a real treasure - with his favourite hobbies being lazing around in the sunshine, curling up on the couch , keeping his house and family safe guarding the house and soaking up all the human attention he can get !
Quito is mostly a calm boy - he doesn’t jump up on people - although he does occasionally jump up on your bed for prime comfort! He sleeps in the laundry currently as he feels safest in a smaller area for bed time - too much freedom at night makes him feel he needs to look after the house and yard. He definitely won’t suit being an outside only dog - this dude is way too human focused for that.
He’s currently in foster care with a female staffy - they don’t play and he prefers to be an only dog as that’s what he’s used to. He loves daily walks and mostly walks well, but he can be strong on lead and bark and howl when seeing cats or other dogs on his walks. He hasn’t had a lot of socialisation so his new family needs to commit to correcting his lead reactivity with a front clipping harness and positive reinforcement training . Please no dog parks or allowing unleashed dogs to run up to him whilst he’s training.
Quito is very smart and responds well to training. Even though he is quite well mannered we will only consider homes with recent medium-sized dog experience, who understand and can read doggo body language to ensure his next adoption lasts his lifetime.
Quito really is a gentle soul and will make an incredible addition to the right family. He enjoys a good mix of active time as well as chill out time so he may suit a couple without kids, or empty nesters who’s human kids have left home. He particularly responds to men so we feel he would make a mature aged man a best mate. He does get along well with kids but at this stage we are looking for a home without young kids - dog-savvy teenagers may be OK. No homes with babies, toddlers, cats, little fluffy dogs or pocket pets please.
For more information or to meet Quito please contact Jo on rescuepooch75@gmail.com . He is in foster care in the Gosford area on the NSW Central Coast.
Quito’s adoption fee is $350 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
