What happens when a working dog doesn't make the cut? They end up in care.

And that's exactly what happened to young FLETCH, a sweet and gentle Border Collie x Kelpie x Stumpy-tailed Cattle Dog, born in April 2021. (He also has the cutest little stumpy tail, thanks to his Mum.)

As a failed trainee working dog, Fletch is a little timid and shy at first, especially around men. But with a few kind words and gentle pats, he soon warms up and you can see his affectionate temperament shining through. The photos in this profile, taken at the vet clinic soon after he was surrendered, do not do justice to the sweetness of his nature. And he was surprisingly placid for a dog experiencing the vet for probably the first time in his short life.

Like all Australian working dogs, Fletch is loyal, intelligent and eager to please and will have no trouble at all making the transition from farm dog to family pet.

He thrives on human contact and kindness, so we are looking for a home for him where he will be regarded as an integral part of the family. That means being an inside-outside dog. Fletch has had quite enough of being outside only.

He is dog-friendly, but untested with cats. His need for exercise, mental stimulation and human contact mean that he is not suited to full-time workers. Preference will be given to homes where someone is around most of the time and/or there is another dog for him to play with. Prior experience with working dog breeds will be highly regarded.
