About Indi
She is an absolutely adorable and gentle girl
Her Microchip says Catahoula x but clearly by her look and personality we think she is a 5 year old Mastiff Labrador cross weighing 40 kg. She is a happy, gentle and affectionate gal who loves people. She was previously owned by a backyard breeder to produce puppies and was dumped after having her most recent litter. Despite all she has been through, Indi is still a trusting and loving dog.
OBEDIENCE
Indi listens to commands such as sit and stay. She walks fairly well on lead and will sit if you tell her to at a crossing.
She will however pull if she sees a cat. Being a strong dog, it’s important that she is walked with a sturdy harness.
She does not jump on people. She is wonderfully behaved at home. She is not destructive.
She is not greedy and does not beg for food while her human family is eating.
Left alone at home, Indi tends to sleep by the door waiting for her family to return.
ENRICHMENT
Indi needs two walks a day. She enjoys fairly long walks (30 mins or more). She absolutely loves the car and going out on rides. She has been on many trips while in foster care and has behaved perfectly in the car.
She likes squeaky plush toys (given to her only under supervision). She also loves her treats
SLEEPING
Indi is an indoor dog and sleeps inside. She hangs out with her humans, lying down on the rug in the tv room while they watch tv, or in her spare bed in the dining room when they are eating. Basically, she wants to be where her human family is. She goes to sleep and wakes up when her humans do.
SOCIALIZATION
Indi is friendly to all the people she has met. She has met several dogs while in foster care and seems cautious but friendly. If living with another dog, a submissive male will be ideal. Otherwise, she is happy being the only dog provided her family is inclusive and she isn’t left alone for very long periods. She is not cat friendly.
FOOD
She eats Royal Canine dry food mixed with Prime - morning and night. She is a fussy eater and would rather go hungry than eat dry food on its own. She will only eat her dry food if given with prime (chicken is her favorite). She loves the occasional treat.
HYGIENE
Indi is given baths with gentle oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. She likes back massages and asks for them!
TRAVEL/CAR
She absolutely loves the car and loves being included in family trips.
IDEAL HOME:
Indi would thrive in a home with a couple or a family with teenager or older kids that are home regularly and would include her in their daily activities. Don’t get us wrong, Indi is perfectly gentle with toddlers and she does not jump on people, but her exuberant tail wagging may accidently put a toddler off balance.
She is an indoor dog. A home with easy outside access would be ideal to allow her the freedom to go about her day as she sees fit. She is not suited to being outdoors on warm days. Her smushed face and dark coloring makes it harder to cool in the heat.
She does not like peeing on stones/pebbles so a grassy courtyard/yard is required.
Even though she is obedient and walks well on lead, Indi is a strong girl and needs experienced owners to handle her. She is eager to please and would love a family that will give her lots of pats, kisses and cuddles. She is a wonderful dog whom you can’t help falling in love with.
