About Avalon
(In foster care - Strathfield, NSW)
Interested adopters please complete the adoption form -https://form.jotform.com/21304522671585
Avalon is a sweet, quirky, super cuddly, playful girl who just wants love! Avalon is a medium sized dog weighing 17kg. She is very friendly with kids and loves other dogs.
She loves playing tug and fetch! She is obsessed with cuddles, being wrestled and pats.
Avalon is a quick learner and has enjoyed training and enrichment activities. She knows some commands and walks fairly well on leash, though we recommend continued obedience training to help her bond with her new family.
She loves playing and spending time with her family. Her favourite activities include playing fetch, running around in the backyard, going on car rides and meeting other dogs!
Rescue story:
Avalon was sadly abused and neglected by her previous owners who used her for “backyard breeding”. She lived in the backyard with no bedding or toys. She was not socialised properly with humans or other animals. Due to this, previous experience OR the willingness to learn how to train nervous rescue dogs is required.
Avalon will blossom with a patient, calm and loving family in a quiet household. She is extremely affectionate and loves the company of her humans!
Avalon does get nervous around strangers and initially barks, growls and sometimes softly bites if strangers come too close to her (she is especially scared of males). Caution needs to be taken on walks as she can get nervous and is reactive to strangers getting to close to her. She also does tend to bark at strangers passing by the home. However, with socialisation and training she is getting better everyday.
She has lived with adults and children while in foster care who she absolutely loves. She is a very calm, happy and loving dog with her family and people she has met with slow introductions.
While in foster care, Avalon has settled very well to living indoors with an outdoor backyard. She is toilet trained (using a pet door) and not destructive. She is happy to sleep (and snore) in her bed, which can be placed within an open crate or playpen. She also enjoys cuddles with her humans in bed or on the couch.
Avalon isn’t too fond of dog food, so her foster family have been feeding her a balanced diet of protein, fruits, vegetables, and carbs. They also have been feeding her Royal Canin dry and wet dog food. She also loves natural dog treats.
Ideal family:
My ideal home would be one where my humans can give me lots of love and attention! I would love a home in a quiet neighbourhood and I’d prefer not to be left alone for long periods of time. I need slow introductions to new people and environments. I need a backyard that I can run and play in!
I initially get quite defensive and scared around a strangers. I promise once I’ve gotten over my initial fear I’m a real cutie-pie! I love pats, belly rubs, kisses and cuddles! I will be your very best friend and give you lot’s of love!
Suitability with dogs:
I was unsure and scared of dogs at first, but now I love meeting dogs and having puppy play dates. I lived with another dog for two weeks and he was my best friend! I would love living with another small/medium sized dog!
Suitability with cats:
I grew up with cats and have been living with cats in my foster home! I do a lot of cat things that my foster ‘pawrents’ find so entertaining and cute! I love cats, but i do get overexcited and accidentally chase them. My foster family keeps gates up to separate me from the cats so they have their own safe space.
Medical notes
Avalon has completed initial vet work while in our care. This includes, health and dental checks, desexing, microchip, vaccinations, worming treatment, flea treatment and behavioural assessment.
Avalon has no health conditions or issues.
Grooming:
Avalon has been visiting Dee at Darlo Dogs. She requires regular visits to a groomer (hand stripping at least twice a year) as she has long wirey fur.
Behavioural:
Avalon can get quite nervous around strangers initially (especially men), and will need an understanding, loving family who are prepared to be patient and continue professional training with her. While in foster care she has been doing desensitisation training and socialisation which has greatly improved her interactions with strangers. She has been training with Anna from Urban Herd.
Avalon has been in foster care with us for 8 weeks. During this time she has been taking daily Zylkene supplements, hemp pet nectar and wearing an Adaptil collar (recommended by our vet) to help her adjust. These items will be included in her adoption pack.
