About Nikita
I was surrendered to Lort Smith after I was hit by a car and suffered multiple fractures as and a hip dislocation. My previous owners were not able to afford the cost of care, as well as have time for my lengthy recovery, so they decided it was best to surrender, so I could get the very best care going forward.
My surgery went well, and I have been in foster care ever since, with my wonderful and attentive foster carer, and although I do love it there, I am now ready to find a home of a more permanent nature.
I am still recovering from the injures I sustained being hit by a car, so I will be a foster with a view to adopt until I build up strength, endurance and to allow for more healing to occur.
I am a young, quirky, and energetic girl. My favourite past times are going on walks, throwing around and snuggling my soft teddies, playing a good game of tug of war with my human friends, and I am an expert at hiding/burying my food, so that I can come back to it later!
It would be best that I go to a home with someone that is highly knowledgeable of my breed, is an experienced handler, and will take me to one-on-one obedience training to build up on my confidence and manners.
I can be quite nervous and anxious of new people, sounds and environments, and I also don't much like being left alone! I will need a family that will be patient with me, work on building up my confidence and independence, and showing me that the world isn’t such a scary place. For these reasons, it would be best if my new home consisted of at least 2-3 people.
Because of these behaviours, I have been placed on some medication to help reduce my anxiety levels and make me feel a little more at ease.
In my foster home, I have been living with a young cat, however, I do at times get a little too excitable and chase, so to be safe, it would be best if there are no small animals in my new home. I am slowly getting used to being around other dogs however, I do not know how to engage and interact, so if I was to go to a home with a canine friend, they would have to have good obedience, be calm, confident and know how to play appropriately.
If you think my new home could be with you, please fill out an online expression of interest form below.
Medical notes
Nikita was hit by a car and suffered multiple fractures. Her pelvis was fractured, and she had a dislocated hip. These were both repaired; however, she is still recovering and has small fractures that are still healing. Nikita is also on medication for anxiety, as she suffers separation anxiety.
