About Freddo
Freddo (or Fred as he is more affectionately known) is a large bubbly chocolate labrador cross with soulful eyes that will melt even the coldest of hearts. He is looking for his forever home.
Freddo is taller than the average Labrador.
Fred has been living in an apartment (and going on up to 5 walks a day) for the last month however he will need to live in a house with a backyard where he can run.
Fred is an animated dog who loves receiving pats and playing tug of war with his many toys but is still getting used to the outside world. He will need some reward based training especially on walks where he needs someone to ensure that he isn't distracted by other dogs and/or food on the ground. He will need someone who is confident walking him and is patient enough to help him learn to calm down.
He loves meeting friends in the park and has a gentle soul, however, can get carried away because he has only had limited experience with other dogs. He sometimes forgets how big so WILL NOT be suited to dog parks.
He is well toilet-trained and prefers to go on grass. When you first take him home, he may not go to the toilet for up to 24 hours as he can get quite anxious and nervous about going in a new environment, however, after the first few days he will settle in nicely as long as he has somewhere safe he can go.
Fred is currently not living with another dog or any children, however, based on his experience walking in the park, he could possibly get used to living with another female dog similarly sized, especially one who could help teach him about being a dog. He will most likely also be very good with older teenagers.
Fred does sometimes bark at men, however, using treats to move him away and reward disengaging works very well and will be a good training idea to combat this.
Fred came to us with dermatitis near his tail, however, that has since cleared up with a daily conditioner and some medication.
Freddo's adopting fee also includes a one-on-one 30 minute behaviour consult here at SCAR in Craigieburn.
