About Gloria 🐾 1yr Old German Shepherd(On Trial 3/9/22)
Gloria is a 1 yr old Shepherd, who is blind. She is a very happy & inquisitive girl who is still a pup at heart ❤
Gloria loves playing with her toys and loves to run, jump & play, and even does zoomies. She loves being with her humans & would ideally have the run of the house. Must sleep inside.
Gloria is a big fan of lounging around on sofa's too.
She also enjoys the company of dogs and her ideal doggy friend would have to be easy-going & able to adapt to Gloria's special ways.
She can't see normal social cues that dogs give out, so it will be a special dog that doesn't mind her being up & close & sometimes bumped into, etc.
Gloria is currently in care with a senior Shepherd x and a young kelpie girl who she loves playing chasies with. Really enjoys a good splash in water too.
If you're looking to be entertained, then look no further.
Gloria is an unusual girl and would be well suited to a home that can appreciate all her quirks & her great sense of humor.
She is quite large & can sometimes misstep & bump into things. For this reason, she would be best suited to kids at least 12 yrs old.
Ideally, her new family would be understanding & patient as some things could accidentally be knocked over.
Gloria is very intelligent & can map the layout of a house in a very short amount of time.
She is truly an amazing dog, what she lacks in sight she more than makes up for with her other senses. It's easy to sometimes forget she is actually blind.
Gloria is currently needing daily medications for her existing eye. We believe she can see some shapes/figures & some light. There is a chance she may need this removed at some stage also.
Gloria has a great outlook on life and being blind does not hold this girl back at all.
Gloria is such a unique & special girl, who deserves an equally special family.
If you can offer Gloria all that she needs & would love a chance to welcome her into your family, or want any more information, then please follow the prompts, and fill out her application form.
Gloria is a gorgeous girl but she is a special needs dog and has special requirements :
~A good-sized yard
~Someone home more often than not
~Understanding that blind dogs require a consistent environment with minimal movement of furniture and trip hazards to allow them the freedom to behave as a seeing dog would in their home
~Preferably with an existing dog would ideally be medium to large size, 2-7years with a calm and social nature.
~She may thrive in a single dog family as long as she is the focus of her human’s attention and not left alone all the time.
~No young children please as her training will need to be a priority for a while!
~Financially prepared to pay for long-term vet care - especially in regards to her eye and common Shepherd hip issues.

To start the adoption process, first fill out an adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt.
PLEASE NOTE: When applying for our dogs and puppies, please ensure to list the name of the dog you wish to adopt. Please do NOT just list the reference number or the microchip number as this will delay your application reaching the correct foster carer.
Gloria's adoption fee is $600. This includes desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, and flea, worm and tick treatment.
You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
PLEASE NOTE: Dog Rescue Newcastle provide individual listings with specific requirements for each foster dog. If you submit an application or inquiry and NOT receive a response within 5 business days, please understand that you have not met the specific requirements for this dog. Please do not be disheartened or discouraged if you do not receive a reply, this simply means you were not a suitable match at this time.
Medical notes
Gloria has had one eye removed and she has little to no vision in her remaining eye. At this point in time our vets have suggested trying to keep her remaining eye , however it will need to be removed at some point in the near future.
If you apply to adopt Gloria are you ready for any stigma attached to having a dog with no eyes? Many people may not be able to emotionally manage this idea or reality even though Gloria can lead a long and happy life with no eyes.
The German Shepherd breed is known for hip issues so her adoptive family will need to be prepared financially for any vet care to keep her comfortable over her lifetime.
