About Maggie
Miss MAGGIE is a sweet, gentle and petite young kelpie x cattle dog, born on 10 July 2020 and weighing just 16.9 kgs. She has the deep chest and square build of a cattle dog, but the coat colour and markings of a kelpie. All in all, she's a very pretty little package.
Reserved until she gets to know you, Maggie is very affectionate once you've earned her trust. Within a couple of hours of arriving at her new foster home, she was cuddling up to her foster mum as if they were old friends. Check out the second video which was taken on the day of her arrival at her new home.
Maggie came from a loving country home where there were lots of dogs and plenty of good food, but very limited opportunity to socialise with humans and other dogs outside of her pack.
More of an observer than an active participant in canine games, Maggie gets on well with other dogs, once she's had the chance to size them up and feel comfortable. If she feels threatened, she doesn't cower or respond with aggression - she just runs away and hides.
She eats every meal as if it were her last and we find it's better to feed her alone.
Maggie is intrigued by the resident cat, but doesn't yet qualify for the label "cat-friendly".
She delights in the company of children with good dog-manners, but is probably too timid to be a suitable companion for the very young.
She's completely house-trained, although she had a couple of little accidents when she was settling in to her new foster home. She's learning to cope with the noises of town life, although the lawnmower is definitely not a favourite.
Being a country girl, she's not lead-trained, but being a clever working dog mix is more than capable of learning.
Maggie is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped and her adoption fee is $625.
Preference will be given to quieter homes where someone is around most of the time and there is another compatible dog for her to play with. Experience with working dog breeds will be highly regarded. As always, good fencing is essential.
