About Mazzy 🐶4yo Spoodle (28/2/22 on trial)
💙 SPECIAL NEEDS: Please read in full before applying 💙
Mazzy is a beautiful 4-year-old female Spoodle (Cocker Spaniel x Poodle). She is fun and playful and loves being surrounded by family, going on adventures, playing fetch and going for walks. She spends most of her time indoors but loves exploring the garden and laying in the sun.
Mazzy loves meeting new people on walks. She enjoys playing with dogs when out of her own house. She guards balls and sticks so she should not be off lead when other dogs have balls or sticks.
She enjoyed training as a puppy and can behave well when not stressed. She really enjoys the attention and opportunity to earn rewards.
BEHAVIOURS
Mazzy has anxiety, and is on daily medication to help her. Her anxiety does not result in her being timid or shy. Her main issues are guarding belongings and behaving aggressively when she is stressed.
She often collects belongings (shoes, toys, pens, etc). Though she doesn’t chew them, she does guard them. She can get very stressed when she is approached while guarding and could bite if you persist in approaching her. While these situations can be challenging and frustrating, when managed correctly they can be diffused quite easily. She will generally trade the stolen item for a treat. She really does want to be a good girl. She just has this impulse to collect things then get protective over them.
When there are no items laying around to tempt her and she has nothing to guard, she is usually happy and relaxed.
She has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing, bathing and clipping (every 6 to 8 weeks).
Mazzy is a beautiful, affectionate dog and is a pleasure to have around and we are absolutely heartbroken to be rehoming her. We wish we could keep her but her tendency to hoard and defend items requires careful management which is incompatible with young kids. Our life is busy with guests, trips away and a baby so we can no longer provides Mazzy with the calm, stable environment she needs.
Mazzy's possessive behaviour has been present since she was about a year old and will not magically resolve when she moves to another home. But she can definitely be managed much better in a less busy environment.
IDEAL NEW HOME
Mazzy needs a calm and stable environment with people who will love her despite her behaviour challenges. She needs owner who will love her unconditionally. It’s important for Mazzy to feel safe at all times. She needs people who will always respond in a calm and gentle way and never get angry with her or punish her, no matter what.
She will be best suited to a quiet home and relaxed lifestyle. Her news owners will have a positive attitude, accept her quirks and be happy to work around her needs. Ideally her new owners will have some experience with challenging dogs and believe in a positive reinforcement approach.
She is not suited to live in an apartment or with children under 16 or other dogs.
She is fine home alone during work hours or equally happy if people are home more often.
Mazzy is on daily medication to help with her anxiety. Her new owners must be committed to keeping her on medication, possibly for the rest of her life, and consulting annually with a veterinarian. We will explain Mazzy’s behaviours in detail with full transparency.
We're sure Mazzy will thrive in the right home and bring them much love and joy.
If you can give Mazzy the calm environment and understanding which she needs, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt.
