About Wanda
MEET WANDA!
Wanda is approximately 6 years old, all white, female, fully vet worked young cat. She is ready for her forever home!
*please thoroughly read Wanda's profile before applying*
Wanda is one of the sweetest, gentlest souls on earth, but unfortunately, she has had a rough time.
Wanda came into care as a stray found on the side of the road.
Her rescuers suspected she had been hit by a car. Upon the initial vet check, it was discovered that she was severely malnourished and underweight, was suffering from a middle ear infection that has caused a head tilt (at this stage, we are unsure if this will resolve or be permanent however she can and does live happily with it).
Wanda also tested positive for FIV, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, We are unsure how this diagnosis will affect her long term however research suggests that many FIV positive cats have the same lifespan as negative cats, but if the positive cat progresses from an asymptomatic to a progressive immuno-compromised state, they may be more susceptible to secondary infections so any signs of illness must be taken seriously.
All this being said, Wanda is just beautiful and would make a wonderful and loving member of the family; out of all the cats I have fostered, she has been the most tolerant and gentle, even when I have had to medicate her multiple times a day.
She is incredibly affectionate and does not stop purring when you are cuddling her. I would like to see her go to a home that understands her condition and will love her unconditionally. FIV is not contagious to humans or dogs but can be transmitted to other cats through deep bites often caused during a fight; for this reason, she will need to be homed with another positive cat or as a sole cat, you can also get your cat vaccinated against FIV yearly to keep them protected if you are interested in Wanda and have another cat.
Wanda does appear to have sun damage on her ears and nose, and although it does not appear to be bothering her now, it will need to be monitored at her annual health checks and keeping her strictly indoors is a must!
If you can look past Wanda's awful history and medical conditions, you will be rewarded with so much love and companionship, we so would love to find Wanda her forever home, she deserves it after everything she has endured!
*Wanda is INDOOR ONLY strictly please; do not apply if you are not confident or comfortable with this
*Wanda must either be the only cat in the home, with another FIV+ cat or with a cat vaccinated against FIV
Please tell us all about yourself, your home life and let us know that you understand Wanda's medical needs when you apply.
Medical notes
Wanda is FIV positive, though this diagnosis sounds scary (and sometimes it can be) it is something that thousands of cats live with every day and research shows most FIV+ cats have the same life span as negative cats, it currently does not affect her and it's something that will need to be monitored and checked at her annual health check. She requires no medications currently and we would hope she would stay that way for a long time if not forever, however any signs of illness must be taken seriously.
Wanda is a pure white cat, she has signs of sun damage on her skin, these spots will need to be monitored and she must be kept INDOOR only to protect her from the harsh sun! These spots are currently not malignant and keeping her indoors will greatly reduce her chances of these changing, again these can be checked at her annual health check.
Wanda has a head tilt from a severe ear infection, it does not affect her mobility however.
