About Max
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Max
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Mastiff X
General breed traits: MASTIFFS are good-natured and affectionate towards their human - being bred as a guardian to family. He will mature into a calm and quiet dog who loves being with his people. He can be aloof to strangers and wary of unknown dogs so early socialisation with people and dogs is essential. Mastiffs can be mouthy so obedience training and clear boundaries are a must. Mastiffs do not like being alone and are definitely inside dogs that want to be lap dogs if given a chance. If not exercised and lonely they will pine and be destructive. They are not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Easygoing, affectionate, devoted, friendly, outgoing, active, sweet and playful just about sums this boy up. He’s a big boof head who has a boisterous side but he absolutely loves the company of his people.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Cuddles! He absolutely loves his people and is never happier than when he’s curled up on the lounge with his person for a snuggle. He also loves to play with other dogs and has a variety of toys. He enjoys playing tug of war with his people or other dogs.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Max is a gentle giant. He’s incredibly loyal and will make the perfect companion in the right home. He is still a young pup and very much wants to be the centre of your world.
OTHER ANIMALS: Max gets on with all dogs and would love another youngish, similar sized dog to play with in his new home - his latest best friend in foster was a Kelpie. He is overly focused on cats so we won’t rehome him with anything small and furry! Max has spent time on a property with horses, sheep and chickens and if well supervised will happily share space with them.
GENERAL INFO: Max hasn’t had the best start in life and has missed out on early training so will need an owner who has the time and patience to work with him. He is still learning to walk nicely on the lead and is housetrained (although may have an accident or two while he’s settling in). He will bark to get attention or when he sees strangers or other animals. He can jump up and mouth when excited or wanting attention but is learning to keep his feet on the ground - working with him on this is very important considering his size and strength. Max doesn't like being left alone and will scratch at the door or try to follow his person if they leave - he is currently on medication to help with his anxiety while he is going through so many changes. With consistent training to build his confidence and trust, Max will gradually learn that you are coming home. He knows a couple of commands so ongoing training will be of immense benefit to him.
ESSENTIALS for Max
:: A loving, calm, dog experienced home where someone is there for most of the day, and can take him with them when they go out.
:: Someone experienced and confident with large breeds due to his strength and size.
:: Bona fide training classes where Max can learn by gentle positive reinforcement and gain the confidence he lacks.
:: Good daily exercise and mental stimulation to deter destructive behaviour.
:: A highly fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for him to sniff and explore.
:: Access inside or out as he needs, to sleep inside at night and be included as part of the family.
Due to his boisterous nature we won’t home him with children under 14 years.
If Max sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
