About Avalon
(In foster care - Strathfield, NSW)
Avalon is a sweet, super cuddly, playful girl who just wants love!
Interested adopters please complete the adoption form -https://form.jotform.com/21304522671585
Avalon will blossom in a patient, calm and loving household where she is able to participate in everyday life with her humans. While in foster care, she has made a great companion for all activities, including car rides (she falls asleep and is just happy to be included), adventures (she loves going to the dog park and on walks) and just hanging out at home (snuggling on the couch, watching tv, laying on the floor by her humans while they WFH).
Avalon is a quick learner and has enjoyed training and enrichment activities. She can get quite excited around walk time and is still learning her manners on a lead, but is getting better everyday.
Avalon does get nervous around strangers and initially barks, growls and sometimes bites (she is especially scared of males). Caution needs to be taken on walks as she can get nervous. She also does tend to bark at strangers passing by the home. With socialisation and training she is getting better everyday. She has lived with adults and children while in foster care who she absolutely loves. Avalon will need a family that can continue professional training, enrichment activities & reinforce good behaviours.
While in foster care, Avalon has settled very well to living indoors. She is not destructive and is generally well behaved. She gets tired easily after walks and is happy to sleep (and snore) in her bed, which can be placed within an open crate or playpen. She does enjoy a cuddle with her foster humans in bed or on the couch.
Avalon absolutely loves her cuddly toys and will always have one with her. She loves collecting all of her soft toys and putting them into her bed and snuggling with them (these will be included in her adoption pack).
Avalon isn’t too fond of dog food, so her foster family have been feeding her a balanced diet of protein, fruits, vegetables, and carbs. They also have been feeding her Royal Canin dry and wet dog food. She also loves natural dog treats.
Rescue Story:
Avalon was rescued from a neglectful & abusive home. She lived with a family (parents and three children who were apparently quite rough with her). She lived in the backyard with no bedding or toys. She grew up with two cats and was fed cat food. She was not socialised properly with humans or other animals. She had not been to the vet until she came into our care.
Ideal family:
My ideal home would be one where my humans can give me lots of love and attention... with my happy sweet personality you won't be able to resist anyway! I would love a home in a quiet neighbourhood and I’d prefer not to be left alone for long periods of time. I love to go outside with my humans, so I would love to have playtime in a backyard or to go on walks (at least twice a day please).
I get scared of strangers and will bark, growl & sometimes bite initially. I have had some bad experiences with men, as a puppy, so I initially get quite defensive and scared around all males. I quickly get over my fear with children and women, but it takes me a few days to get used to new males. I promise once I’ve gotten over my initial fear I’m a real cutie-pie! I love pats, belly rubs, kisses and cuddles! I will be your very best friend and give you lot’s of love!
Suitability with dogs:
I was unsure and scared of dogs at first, but now I love meeting dogs when i go on walks and to the dog park! I would love a home with a friendly, canine best ‘furriend’ that can teach me how to dog!
Suitability with cats:
I grew up with cats and have been living with cats in my foster home! I do a lot of cat things that my foster ‘pawrents’ find so entertaining and cute! I love cats, but i do get overexcited and accidentally chase them (I’m pretty good usually, but sometimes i just have to be separated from cats).
Medical notes
Avalon has completed initial vet work while in our care. This includes, health and dental checks, desexing, microchip, vaccinations, worming treatment, flea treatment and behavioural assessment.
Avalon has no health conditions or issues.
Grooming:
Avalon has been visiting Dee at Darlo Dogs. She requires regular visits to a groomer (hand stripping at least twice a year) as she has long wirey fur.
Behavioural:
Avalon can get quite nervous around strangers initially (especially men), and will need an understanding, loving family who are prepared to be patient and continue professional training with her. While in foster care she has been doing desensitisation training and socialisation which has greatly improved her interactions with strangers. She has been training with Anna from Urban Herd.
Avalon has been in foster care with us for 8 weeks. During this time she has been taking daily Zylkene supplements, hemp pet nectar and wearing an Adaptil collar (recommended by our vet) to help her adjust. These items will be included in her adoption pack and must be continued on a long-term basis.

4) If all goes well in the video meeting - The foster carer will contact you to do an in person meeting. If the potential adopter has any dogs then they will be asked to bring those to the meeting. If possible, we ask that potential adopters meet the pet, more than once to ease their transition to their new home.

6) Once approved, you will be emailed a link to sign our Adoption Agreement, complete ownership transfer papers and make your adoption donation.
7) Once we receive all your completed paperwork and donation the foster carer will contact you to arrange a time to collect your new furry family member!
8) All Animal Rescue Sydney pets have a minimum two week trial (this trial can be extended dependant on the pet and your situation) in your home.
