About Sunny
Sunny’s name is no accident. She is a bright and cheery girl. Her golden fawn coat and chocolate highlights are stunning.
An unfortunate leg injury hasn’t dampened her love of life. Before coming to Gumtree Greys, Sunny had a fall and a badly sprained foot. She had surgery to replace a ruptured ligament but this was not completely successful. Sunny does not let this hold her back. She is young and energetic but has learnt to adjust to life with one foot that can be a little stiff when getting up from rest or after a longer walk. In the long term Sunny may need to take supplements to manage the joint discomfort. Even though she has the desire for big energetic zoomies and longer walks, Sunny’s activity may need to be managed carefully. Gumtree Greys will continue to oversee and cover vet costs for a period post adoption as she is still in a recovery stage.
Sunny is very affectionate and her foster parents are everything to her. She loves nothing more than a cuddle and pats. She needs to know where you are and what you are up to. Sunny dotes on her foster brother, another greyhound. She has attempted to cuddle up with him if he would let her. It’s not his thing.
In the home, Sunny is learning how things work and what is expected of her. She has learnt that there is plenty more food to come so she is no longer wolfing down her dinner. Her foster parents no longer need to count the fingers on their hand just to make sure they are all still there after Sunny eagerly snaps a treat from them. There is no more counter surfing and socks and other interesting items around the house are now safe from abduction…mostly. Sunny is also sleeping through the night and patient for her humans to get up in the morning.
Sunny was a little skittish on her walks initially. She was startled by some loud unexpected noises like trucks or skateboards passing. Now she is feeling much more confident and enjoys her walks. As her walks have been a bit shorter, Sunny has not had a lot of exposure to dogs other than her foster brother. The interactions have been good so far.
In fostercare Sunny has only been left alone for very short periods and had the company of her foster brother so in her permanent home she will need lots of human company or another suitable calm dog.
Sunny, is a gorgeous and affectionate girl to brighten up every day.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
