About Leigh
Our Leigh is a gorgeous affectionate and constant friend. She will shadow her humans a little when they are at home. Leigh loves learning and has mastered many skills including stairs, sleeping by herself separate to her humans and of course toilet trained. She is learning some commands such as “on your bed” and is having “touch” training.
On her walks Leigh is very enthusiastic. She loves two to three walks but thinks 30 minutes is plenty long enough. Leigh is happy and chilled with most areas she is walking in but may be a bit skittish with skateboarders or bicycles zooming by.
Leigh is happy to meet most dogs on her walks. She can be reluctant to engage with bouncy rude dogs who jump at her. Leigh also avoids busy playgrounds with lots of noisy activity. Leigh’s main objective on her walks is to meet and greet every human she can so they can agree with her that she is the most elegant hound with her silky black coat, white toes and her Batman shaped white patch on her chest.
In her home, Leigh is a sweet delight. Very affectionate and appreciative for a tummy rub or deep ear tickle. Leigh will melt into you with delight in a big loving hug. She also loves entertaining you with her indoor zoomies and play with favourite toys. When home alone Leigh has a hobby. She will collect various household items to take to her bed including shoes and even her own lead.
Leigh would be happy as an only dog providing her humans were not away from home for more than a three to four hours. She would also be very happy to share her home with a medium to large hound too.
Her foster carers think Leigh is the most sweet, friendly girl, always keen to be your companion in whatever you are up to.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
