About Bear
4-year-old Bear is a big furry friend with a big heart. He is looking for some equally big-hearted humans to love him forever.
Bear’s favourite things in the world are: food, walkies, napping on the couch, soaking up the sunshine, and car rides.
Bear is a clever and food motivated boy and is having fun learning basic cues such as ‘on your bed’, ‘sit’, and ‘okay/eat’. He LOVES to help with the recycling by shredding up cardboard and wrappers, and adores his dog toys.
Bear has come a long way in foster care but there’s still a few things he’s adjusting to and he would love a kind and patient human to continue to make him feel safe in the world.
Bear loves people but he can be a little shy at first. Bear's forever humans will understand that he might take some time to bond but once he builds his trust, he will be your best friend forever.
When Bear first arrived in foster care he found going on walks overwhelming and would freeze a lot. It has been incredible watching his confidence grow and in the last few weeks, Bear has been strutting about like the boss that he is. He's even been to Bunnings and a cafe, where he welcomed pats from new human friends.
Like many rescued greyhounds, Bear was malnourished and hungry when he first arrived in care and showed some resource guarding behaviours around food. Bear now knows that he gets regular meals. He is much more relaxed around food, and has learned to stay on his bed while his foster carer is busy in the kitchen or eating. He will still occasionally resource guard if feeling nervous and his new family will give him space while he is eating, keep food securely away, and continue using positive reinforcement to teach him to relax on his bed during human mealtimes.
Bear has some separation anxiety. Over time he has learned to relax and feel safe while his foster carer goes out, but this has been a work in progress. Bear's new home will need to start small with time home alone and slowly build up to longer periods. Food puzzles work well to distract and entertain him but a home where he would not regularly be left alone for longer periods would suit him best.
Bear is a truly special boy. Sadly, he has had two adoption trials that didn't work out and needs a home who understands that he may take a little longer than other dogs to truly settle in and feel safe, and be willing to invest in this journey with him. Bear's foster carer and Amazing Greys will help support Bear's transition to his new forever home. Bear's ideal life is a quiet home where he can simply hang out with his favourite humans and be their best friend.
