About Eleanor
Eleanor is a luscious chocolate brown girl with big loving eyes and a formidable helicopter tail wag. She has done very well in foster care. At first very apprehensive about the outside word, she is now much more relaxed on her walks. She still does prefer walks along river trails and other parklands rather than busy streets. She loves the water, mud, the smells of the great outdoors. Eleanor likes longer walks and will happily walk for an hour but will settle for a couple of 30 minute walks. She can sometimes be a little shy meeting new people on her walks but will warm up to polite and gentle people. Eleanor is also enjoying meeting all types of dogs on her walks and would like the opportunity to play with suitable dogs. We feel Eleanor would enjoy being in a home with another medium to large dog. This may help her expend some of that excess energy so she can settle and nap for much of the day. Otherwise she can be a bit demanding for attention. Eleanor enjoys games and stimulation/ puzzle toys which help keep her active.
Eleanor is adapting well to life in a home. She is toilet trained and learning some basic commands. She is very food motivated which may help further training but also means you need to keep and eye out for her in the kitchen.
Eleanor loops twice in a circle when you give her a surprise treat in her bowl. She’ll try to ask for treats by looking at the cabinet where she knows where they are kept, indicating with her eyes.
Eleanor likes to stick her tongue out at the side of her mouth when she’s thinking about something. In the mornings she behaves like a cat and rubs her head on your legs/thighs as you try to get up. You can play-bow with her in the mornings when she’s most ‘puppy’.
Eleanor also adores car rides and will jump in the back seat given the opportunity. The perfect companion for road trips.
Eleanor is looking for a home with humans home a lot as she doesnt like being left home alone. Another suitable dog would be a great companion otherwise. She would be happy with teenage children.
This girl is quirky, playful yet tranquil, affectionate and curious. She is everything and will brighten up your every day.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
