Maisie

Maisie is an adorable, clever, loyal, affectionate and velcro-like, pocket-sized Labrador girl.

She has a lot of energy and loves long walks, playing and zoomies in the backyard with her humans. Maisie is a fast learner, food-motivated and easy to train. She’s always a willing training partner!

Maisie would do best in a quiet home with a yard, with people who work from home and give her plenty of attention and an interesting life. She has good manners, sleeps quietly through the night and is toilet trained. Maisie likes a walk, but also really likes a comfy spot to have a snooze and be near her people. She is very well behaved in the house and very eager to please.

She enjoys the usual dog things and has the usual dog needs, but she has two things you need to know: firstly she is not a dog park dog, sometimes she gets worried about other dogs and their humans and if her subtle signs of discomfort aren’t heeded she will loudly tell other dogs to move away and puts on a convincing display that she will bite them, this hasn’t been tested for obvious reasons. Maisie will therefore need careful handling around other dogs, a person who understands her introverted nature and will follow the BAT protocol of counter-conditioning to help her gain confidence around scary things and see that scary can equal chicken, so that soon scary things are no longer scary, but indicators of imminent tasty treats.

Secondly, she is worried about strangers, (particularly men), and needs to meet respectful people who let her take the lead. Maisie does look to her person for reassurance and to be told everything is ok. She needs her new humans to help her find her confidence and to protect her from the scary people! She is improving rapidly and we are hopeful that she will come to see most humans and dogs as possible friends.

She has come from the suburban rural town of Morwell, where she lived in a house with children and her mother. She hadn’t seen much other than the backyard she was born in, before coming to Homeless Hounds and so she has had limited exposure to the world. We have worked on that and she has improved rapidly, and her new people will need to continue in the same manner to help her confidence grow.

We are seeking a home for Maisie in a quiet neighbourhood, where she can relax and dote on her people. A home where she isn’t left home alone a lot and where she can be inside when the people are out is preferable. She could live with a male dog friend happily. She is a lovely wiggle bum who has an infectious smile and a gentle way about her. She will make the humans who suit her needs very happy.
