About Missy
Missy is a gentle, sweet, affectionate and playful lap puppy.
She has good manners, sleeps quietly through the night, is toilet trained and enjoys learning new tricks. Missy likes a walk, but also really likes a comfy spot, a snooze and to be near her people. She is very well behaved in the house and very eager to please.
Missy enjoys all the usual dog things and has the usual dog needs. She has had a rough start and needs a person who understands her introverted nature and will follow the BAT protocol of counter conditioning to help her gain confidence around scary things and see that scary can equal chicken, so that soon scary things are no longer scary, but indicators of imminent treats.
She gets pretty excited about other dogs and it would be nice for her to have a dog friend in her new home.
She is worried about strangers and needs to meet respectful people who let her take the lead, she does look to her person for reassurance and to be told everything is ok.
Missy doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in her body, she needs her new humans to help her find her confidence and to protect her from the scary people! She is improving rapidly and we are hopeful that she will come to see most humans and dogs as possible friends.
We are seeking a home for Missy in a quiet neighbourhood, where she can relax and dote on her people.

Medical notes
Missy has vitiligo, which is a rare and hereditary skin condition that causes melanin-producing cells in the dog's skin to malfunction, causing their dark skin and hair to lighten. It can spontaneously come back and they can develop spots, stripes and silver patches. Luckily it is purely a cosmetic disorder in dogs and no treatment is needed.
Vet notes: The course of canine vitiligo is unpredictable. Depigmentation may be permanent or may wax and wane. In a small number of cases, lesions may spontaneously re-pigment. In contrast to people, dogs with vitiligo rarely develop additional autoimmune diseases. She is in great health and there are no concerns for her going forward.
