About Rusty
Rusty is a happy charming boy. He loves his two good daily walks and other adventures with you. He will joyfully bounce beside you often nuzzling his head on your leg and looking up to say hello. Being young he still has energy left to have zoomies, dig in his sandpit and play with his squeaky toys. There’s nothing better than playing with that cardboard box you left for him.
Rusty has good manners, will be patient and wait for his meals, does not jump onto the couch or human bed and there is no counter surfing. He is also toilet trained.
On his walks Rusty is still learning how to interact with dogs of all different shapes and sizes. Rusty is usually fine with other greyhounds and dogs of a similar size. He is not fond of small dogs or dogs off lead. His foster family are helping him be more relaxed encountering other dogs with counter conditioning and response training.
Rusty is very affectionate, playful and loves to be near his humans in the home. He rarely barks but will sometimes verbalise when you are playing with him and his toys. He is always entertaining with his very expressive ears that with change arrangement for every emotion. Rusty will take great care to prepare his bedding for a nap by doing several circles before finally nestling in.
Rusty has been happy home alone for a for a few hours. He would be happy in a home as the only dog or another suitable doggy companion. He would also appreciate a yard to play in but the most important thing is to provide him with two good walks each day so he can snooze and zoom the rest of the time.
No cat or small dog applications please.

Medical notes
Rusty did have a foot injury. He has recovered well but will occassionally raise that foot. He doesnt like climbing stairs but is perfectly happy using the foot on his walks.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
