Looking for a home on acreage...
Aussie is loving and affectionate and so well behaved around the house. He is obedient, calm and has excellent manners. He knows to lay on his bed and although he will happily share the couch with you, he also knows to get down if he’s told. He is totally house trained and has been left inside for many hours without an accident. Aussie loves to be with his people so he must go to a home where he is allowed to be inside. Aussie is most happy with confident, experienced dog people who give him clear expectations and without small children as their unpredictable behaviour can make him nervous.
He loves his walks especially off the lead and also loves chasing sticks. Aussie is friendly with other dogs when off the lead but can get nervous when on lead and warn other dogs to stay away by barking at them. Therefore, confined walking spaces don’t really suit Aussie and he would prefer a home where daily on-lead walks were not really necessary because he's had plenty of activity and space to run at home or on supervised excursions. He has pretty good recall but occasionally gets onto a scent and takes a moment to “hear” his name being called. He travels extremely well in the car and is a brilliant companion. He is super friendly with people and does sometimes want to jump up if he meets someone new but will quickly calm down if the person tells him to sit for a pat. He prefers the company of people but will play with friendly dogs with good manners, otherwise he is happy to ignore them. He would be happy to be an only dog but a friendly, well mannered dog companion would also suit. In foster care Aussie is living with several dogs and meeting lots of other friends and has had no problems. He isn’t great with cats as his herding instincts come to the fore.
He really is a delightful boy and very easy to have around. Ideally he will go to a home on acreage with an active family who are home more often than not. He loves company but is OK if left on his own during work hours. Most of the time Aussie is calm and happy to lay around. As long as he gets regular exercise and has space to explore, he is a very easy going boy.
