On Hold
About Freda - Located in Northcote
Freda is a sweet, gentle lady who likes to rest on your lap or where she can see you. She loves a pat and snuggle in bed or on the couch, rather than being patted while she’s walking around during the day. She never bites or scratches, just slinks away cheekily! She has been happy sharing her house with a well mannered cat and dog, but might find loud families a bit stressful.
Freda found herself in need of rescue when she unexpectedly developed diabetes, and her owner was unable to care for her. Initially she was started on a moderate dose of insulin, but with time and a special diet is on an incredibly low, once daily little injection which doesn’t bother her at all. There’s a chance this dose could even be lowered further or possibly discontinued with time and care! The current time and financial costs are relatively minimal for caring for a well managed diabetic cat like Freda, but could change. Freda will need a vet to check up on her at least every 3 months to check her blood sugar is well managed at home. Below is a link to see how easy it is to give a cat insulin.
