About Rye
*In foster care in Forest Lodge, Sydney*
Rye is the friendliest guy and there's no doubt about it! He craves cuddles and pats, hanging out devotedly by your side until you're ready to lavish him with your attention (or toss a crisp paper ball for him to chase!) and snuggling up next to you (or on you!) at night <3
This sweet FIV+ boy is a true 'human's best friend' looking for a dedicated life-long partner after a tough early life as a street cat. Because of his FIV status, Rye will need to stay indoors. Most FIV+ cats live long and healthy lives, but they require an owner who is understanding of their condition and aware that there may be additional medical care needs.
Like all Maggie's pets, Rye is microchipped, desexed and vaccinated.

MY IDEAL HOME: I'll love living with a single person, couple or small family who has lots of time to play with me. Of course, I'll need my regular cat naps too... but don't worry! I'll always be sleeping near you to keep you safe!
A home without too many new or noisy people traipsing through all the time would also be great, as I find big groups of humans a bit overwhelming.
I'll probably always be a street kitty at heart, so I love looking out the windows or screen door, hearing the birds chirp, and feeling the breeze ruffle through my fur. Because of my FIV+ status, I will be best suited to a home with experienced cat owners.
MY ENERGY LEVEL: I'm really good at adapting to your bedtime, and will often sleep through the whole night! But I'll definitely have lots of energy when you wake up, so be prepared to bust out the toys for a bit before you go to work :)
I'm also quite the chatterbox, and always have a thought to share when you glance my way. Most likely I'm asking for more pats!
MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: I haven't spent much time around kids, but I'd imagine we'd get along just fine as long as they respect my nap times!
MY SUITABILITY TO CATS AND DOGS: Not sure about dogs, as I've not met any since coming into foster care. Unfortunately my one interaction with a cat was through the screen door, and neither of us enjoyed it :( So I think I'd be happiest as your one and only fur friend!
Medical notes
Rye is a FIV+ cat - please see Pet Profile for more information. We also encourage anyone considering adopting a FIV+ cat to read up more about the virus - https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/cornell-feline-health-center/health-information/feline-health-topics/feline-immunodeficiency-virus
The major route of FIV transmission to other cats is by the deep bite wounds that occur mostly between un-neutered males that are fighting over territory and mates. Isolation of an FIV+ cat is not necessary in a stable household where fights between cats are not occurring.
FIV cannot be passed to dogs.
Feel free to check out other social media pages like https://www.instagram.com/coleandmarmalade/ to see how FIV positive and FIV negative cats can live together in purrfect healthy harmony with no transmission between cats :)

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
