About Spencer
Spencer loves his walks, he enjoys the sniffing and will always stop to smell the flowers. He takes his time to inspect every bush, fence and grassy patch on our way. He finds dog parks a bit overwhelming though. Too much energy and activity. Spencer still needs a little confident guidance on his walks. He doesn't pull, but he may freeze if he sees a small dog, cat, or an alleyway he finds too interesting. He may have a decided preference to walks a certain route.
Spencer loves people and wags his tail at every stranger on the walk. He is very curious about other dogs. He's friendly with large and medium sized dogs, and eager to meet every one of them. The little excitable and yappy things are not his cup of tea.
Spencer has zoomies once a day and loves a good playtime with his squeaky toys. He needs some space for his zoomies, even if it's just a carpeted living room.
Spencer is very bright, learning the house rules and has mastered stairs. He is fully toilet trained, usually allowed out to pee four times a day as well on his walks. He sleeps well through the night but may visit your bedside in the morning to suggest its time to get up. Expect a gentle snout nudging under the side of your doona.
At home, Spencer is chilled and generally happy for you to do your thing when he has settled. He has been left home alone for a couple of hours with no dramatics. Spencer loves roaching (sleeping on his back with his legs in the air) with his tongue out, and sometimes he will have a running dream. But no matter how sleepy he is, he is always happy to get up and come over for some pats when they are on offer.
Spencer is a sweet handsome boy who would love to be part of your family.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
