Hi everyone!
My name is Bruce, and I'm the 'BFG (Big Friendly Giant') at OTC! I was abandoned at the council pound by my owners- and I'm glad they did!! I'd been chained so long and so tightly, that my chain was embedded into my neck. Which is ridiculous considering since being with OTC, I've never once tried to escape my yard, nor caused any problems! So who knows why they did this, but regardless I deserved a lot better! And now, I'm finally getting it.
I am a friendly, chilled out older guy who just wants to be loved. I am a big-headed boof, and can cope living as the only dog on the property. I sleep outside at night on the deck, and appreciate any time you give me. I haven't yet discovered what toys I like, but Kongs are ok! I don't seem to care about rope toys or balls at all- really, my favourite things are sunbaking and pats from you! I am not afraid of storms, or the mower- I just walk off and sit somewhere quieter. I don't tend to bark at much, and my carers can't tell if it's cos I'm not phased by the movement on our street, or if I'm just too lazy- cos sometimes I even eat laying down!
I LOVE car rides, and am working on my leash skills. Currently I pull on the leash a bit, but it's early days and I've probably never been walked, or even out of my yard until now! So I get some leniency there- and practice/consistency makes perfect so I can't wait to show my new family how keen I am to impress. I have learned how to sit and lay down- but tend to prefer if you give me treats to do it...after all, I'm an older man and it's time I got my way for once!
I haven't met cats yet since coming to Off The Chain, but have met human kids and I was really good with them, except for the tiny ones as sometimes I knock them over- I don't seem to be aware of my size. I would definitely feel better living with kids 12yr+ so that I am not in trouble for bumping into the littlies! I haven't been inside yet as my foster carer's landlord only allows outside dogs-however I enjoy sleeping on the deck, and get plenty of love during the day. If you want me to come inside your home, OTC thinks I would be ok, I just might need you to help me learn where to sleep, and how to ask to go outside to toilet- it is very likely my prior owner NEVER let me off the chain and inside! So I will trust you to teach me what to do and what you want, as you would any dog.
Nobody knows why I was left to die in the pound but OTC say they are happy to have me! I have been no trouble at all and am a lot of fun to be around. My fosters say I make their days brighter!
Come and meet me - you won't be able to leave me behind. I really deserve a relaxed, loving family who will make up for lost time
Medical notes
I am a healthy, happy boy. Due to my age, my rescue Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld has opted to start me on 4cyte supplement.
4cyte is an advanced joint support, that stimulates the natural mechanism of joint movement and health. It is given daily in my food. 4cyte addresses things such as stiffness and trouble jumping, running, or playing- and addresses the cause, not just the symptom. Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
- Enrichment, exercise and training needs of pet you are applying for
- If you have not read our adoption process below in full, please do not apply until you have.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet. We will not contact you if you do not complete the form in full AND provided the required photos of yard/fencing within 48hrs. If you apply to adopt but require us to hold the pet more than 3 days before meeting, we will ask you for a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters. If you follow through with adoption after your meet, the $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
